Question Re: Celebrities (Actors)
At one time we lived by a celebrity (actress) who shopped in the local stores; unfortunately she was constantly harassed by adults who would get excited when they saw her and fawn over her. It was impossible for her to eat in local restaurants without being interrupted.
Why do adults act like teenagers when they encounter a celebrity, especially actors? After all an actor is nothing more than a media product. |
Beats me. I went to high school with John Denver...we lived two blocks from each other. I always thought he was a nerd. After he became a celebrity I always actied like some kind of nut in his presence. We kept in contact for many years. My husbands was always cool and unaffected by his celebrity. Me, I was a nut. Who knows? If I figure it out, I will let you know.

I am in awe of great scientists. I met Francis Crick (the double helix) and Jonas Salk and couldn't remember my own name.
It takes all kinds. I wouldn't walk across the street to see some sports figures. It is some kind of defect in my DNA. Thank heavens Sweetie likes me. |

In EVERY category, there are the good, bad and the ugly. For me it it about RESPECT....not about how famous you are or how much money you have. My father taught me well. He treated a doctor and a janitor the same. One of the things that I like when I meet people in TV is that people don't ask me what I did when I worked. They ask me where I'm from. And I'm so glad I'm not a celebrity! :) |

There are lots of celebrities who could not handle the pressure and buckled spiraling into drugs, profligate sex, other forms of hedonism, insanity, and eventually suicide. The Palins have weathered the storm fairly well. Not sure if I and my family could weather such a storm or would want to do this. There are celebrities that try to work with their heightened awareness to do things that are very good for society and other people. Bono, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, and many others. Then there are those that take to a much more darker side and seem to use their fame for what I can only view as evil purposes like Charles Lindbergh and his fascination with the Nazis. |
There was a time in history when acting (actors) were looked down upon as a degrading profession. What changed that outlook in part had to do with receipts as the box office. Money drives it and marketing creates a faux image Actors like George Clooney self promote. Clooney attempting to fool people into believing he is some sort of cross between Frank Sinatra and Bill Clinton. He may be an attractive male but he would make a lousy politician and he isn't even a very good actor.
I have never been in awe of anyone....grateful for and respected their accomplishments but never in awe |

I just checked out Lindbergh Charles Lindbergh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia here. Fascinating!

I worked in broadcasting for years, and lived in LA and DC. Knew many of the "famous" folk. Some were wonderful, down to earth people. Some were jerks. Just exactly like real life! Bottom line is that they all put their pants on, one leg at a time, like the rest of us!

And then those of us that are clueless.
I had a customer come in my store and sold him 4 complete sets of new luggage for his family a very hefty charge. Told him I would be glad to deliver the luggage to his hotel when I finished the monograms. When I rang up the sale I asked for his drivers license and said it would take a minute while I got an approval from the credit card company. I was concerned as the name on the credit card didn't match that on the credit card. He started to laugh and answered it was a company credit card. He then asked "what is your favorite sport" and I answered Tennis. Then as I always do I spelled both the first and last name on the card into the phone. Everybody started laughing as I spelled out B o o m e r E s i a s o n. He said thank you as he gave me the delivery instructions and said "You really should check out Monday Night football." He left and I asked a co-worker ok what's the joke. |

I have run into a few in my time and I tend to respect their need for privacy.
I am excited to be around them. but I don't gush over them. I talked to Chris Elliot and he was very nice, and not the jerk character he played on "Everybody Loves Raymond". I also ran into Eartha Kitt and she thanked me for not letting else know, it was her. |

By the way, most of the Cincinnati Sports figures lived in Northern Kentucky.....they knew what was the best side of the Ohio River! ( said that to get Gracie's attention!) |

A lady I worked with was out shopping and saw a shirt she thought her husband would like but she was unsure of the size. She saw a man nearby who seemed the same size as her husband and asked if he would mind allowing her to hold a few shirts against him to check the size. He said OK, so she held about 6 shirts up against him. She thought he looked familiar and asked if they had possibly met. He said you probably know me from TV. It was Martin Milner from Route 66 and Adam Twelve fame. She was very embarrassed but he was amused by the encounter.
