Where does one find the best fried chicken in The Villages or surrounding area?

graciegirl 11-25-2013 05:13 AM

I still like KFC.

jblum315 11-25-2013 05:17 AM

Don't like KFC. Publix has very good fried chicken. Mine is better.

Publix in Colony Plaza especially their breaded buffalo wings. Will make your chicken the way you like and their quality is consistent. Special orders take about 20 minutes so call ahead and they will be ready when you get there.

jnieman 11-25-2013 09:38 AM

I like McCall's in Spanish Springs. I also like the wing zings or wing dings at Sweetbay.

DonH57 11-25-2013 09:39 AM

McCalls is real good. Winn Dixie sometimes good too.

I love the spices on KFC but after avoiding fried chicken for quite some time I was disappointed at how greasy it was when I ate some recently.

Disappointed............... and had to counter it with Alka Seltzer.

Golden Corral has excellent fried chicken. Best I've had in TV. McCalls is pretty good too.

Bonny 11-25-2013 02:05 PM

More votes for McCalls and Golden Corral !!

logdog 11-25-2013 05:20 PM

KFC and Popeye are pretty good but we like Publix the best.

marianne237 11-25-2013 05:27 PM

IMHO, Publix is okay, but it is a bit greasy. BoJangles is also very greasy. The best chicken we ever tasted since living here was Speckled Butter Bean when it was on route 44.

Now we go to Popeye's.

CaliforniaGirl 11-25-2013 05:54 PM

Cracker Barrel gets my vote. Unfortunately they only have it on Sundays.

kittygilchrist 11-25-2013 06:29 PM

My puppy likes those itty bitty bones on Publix chicken. Those really little bitty ones must be delicious. I'm going to try them myself, next time.

LittleDog 11-25-2013 07:15 PM

I also vote for McCalls. I have found that Golden Corral can be good or not very good - inconsistent.

We are not fried chicken eaters yet I've wondered about the Maryland Fried Chicken in Leesburg. It looks like a fast food establishment but I wonder how it is different from KFC or McCalls. Has anyone tried it?

zcaveman 11-25-2013 08:30 PM

Always enjoyed the Golden Corral. Used to like KFC but haven't been there in a while. Like Publix but the coating is a little salty but I can put up with it.

As the others say - home is the best!

Eaton's Beach Sandbar and Grill on Lake Weir. Very good food, great service, reasonable prices and killer view of the lake.

Tried Maryland Chicken once and weren't impressed. We like Popeye across the street better.

Bill32 11-25-2013 09:41 PM

Unfortunately, I cannot find that in Publix. I always liked it as a snack pack.

Mc Caulls in Spanish Springs Town Square has the best fried chicken:mmmm:

marianne237 11-28-2013 11:32 AM

Just remembered a place we have tried....Ye Olde Coffee Cup in Wildwood on 301. It's on the corner of 466A and 301. They have a small buffet and the meals are filling. Place is a little run down, but has been there for a long time. The chicken is good...not great, but good.

Haven't been there in awhile but the food is really good. More than a little run down but real southern cooking. Don't go if you have cholesterol issues.

sharonga 11-28-2013 08:02 PM

Brightspot.......love your glasses!!

mrbgull 11-29-2013 05:51 PM

TomOB 11-29-2013 08:18 PM

I don't know where, but I will visit you in the CCU if you eat too much.

mrbgull 12-03-2013 06:35 PM

MaCalls is the best. They also do a liver & onions that rock

TheVillageChicken 12-03-2013 07:07 PM

Yikes

travelguy 12-03-2013 07:52 PM

Years ago there was a chain called Po Folks, and they had a location in suburban Bucks County PA. We loved going there (all you can eat, but not a buffet); fried okra, gumbo, fried apples, mac and cheese, hush puppies, and delicious biscuits. I wonder if they still exist somewhere?

Ecuadog 12-03-2013 10:02 PM

Today, I took away a great batch from the Winn Dixie in Wildwood.
