canadian snowbirds
We are a semi retired canadian couple who have visited and loved TV. Are there any Canadians who have bought in TV and what are their opinions re: buying vs renting due to foreign residency time restrictions. Wish we could sty more than 6 months a year.

Re: canadian snowbirds
I am an ex Canadian snowbird. I can tell you I probably see at least 5 to 10 cars or carts a day with moslty Ontario plates. Send me an email and I will try and respond.. Working today

Re: canadian snowbirds
A Canadian snowbird....would that be a Goose? We have a regular on the forum who I'm sure will respond.

Re: canadian snowbirds
Golfnut: The one thing I don't like is Canadian Geese. I have a pond in back yard in Indiana, it's not unusual to see 50 of these at one time , One reason to move to TV full time
Barefoot at Last would be the person to talk to . :agree: :agree: |

We bought because we have dogs and most rentals don't want two dogs, especially one the size of a horse. But to be truthful, even if we didn't have dogs, we would have bought instead of renting because we fell in love with TV and want to be part of the whole thing until we croak. Now we be Villagers! :2excited: The Canadian dollar reached parity today with the U.S. dollar. Prices in the Villages are low. What a great time to buy. |
Re: canadian snowbirds
spend them loonies, you can't take 'em with you.
|
Re: canadian snowbirds
It isn't hard to spend loonies when you have no furniture and need a golf cart, a Villa painted, furniture, kitchen stuff, $$$$$$ Shoulda bought turn key -- what was I thinking? But it sure is nice that our looney is finally equivalent to your dollar ... YAY. Just in time for my Oct 20 first trip to TV, and the subsequent buying spree .... you'll hear those cash registers ringing all over TV!

Re: canadian snowbirds
Hello Fellow Canadians
This is my first post and I am so excited to see other Canadians posting. We close on our new Villages house on October 15th and I can not wait to get there. We also will be busy trying to furnish and set up our home. My husband is still working but we want to make the move to buy now while our dollar is strong. We will be trying to get there as often as we can until his retirement and then will be spending 6 months a year enjoying the Villages. Looking forward to getting to know all of you. |

mom2five:
Welcome to TV. The more you read you will see there are plenty of snowbirds from Canada :welcome: :welcome: :welcome: |
Re: canadian snowbirds
Thank you I am so glad to hear that :2cool:

Re: canadian snowbirds
:welcome: Mom2five, what Village will you be living in? My husband will also be working in Toronto, but I'll be there hopefully for six months; and he'll fly back and forth. We are SO lucky with the Canadian dollar right now; I just converted more money today to U.S. ;D You picked a perfect time to buy in TV! I bet you are so excited, I am!!! We should get together for sure once we get settled.

Re: canadian snowbirds
Barefoot, if you are in a villa check your restrictions and covenants. In the villas in our village, I think residents are limited to only one dog. Those not in villas can have two. Not sure about that but it seems like that is what I remember. I can't remember the source but your sales rep should be able to clarify one way or the other.

Re: canadian snowbirds
Barefoot, Don't worry, it is 2 dogs. We live in a Savannah Courtyard villa. We have 2 dogs as do many of our neighbors.

Re: canadian snowbirds
Oh, Avista, thank heavens! That is a huge relief. A limit of one dog would really have been a show stopper for us; we treasure our furry friends. Thanks so much for your post, whew, now we can all rest easy.

Re: canadian snowbirds
Your description of your 'old dilapidated 70 pound dog with two bad knees' reminds me of a fair number of people I know (and very much the direction I'm headed in...).

Re: canadian snowbirds
Sidney, along with the aches and pains, swollen knees and grey hair, comes wisdom, patience and a "Gitterdone" attitude. I figure The Villages is our reward at the end of the rainbow.

Re: canadian snowbirds
barefoot at last
Sounds like we will be in similar position. I will be there a lot but my husband will be back and forth over the winter. He also works in Toronto. Yes it is just amazing what is happening with the Canadian dollar. We close on October 15th so it looks like we did choose a good time. our new house is in Amelia and I think it would be great if we could get together. Where are you going to be? |

Re: canadian snowbirds
mom2five and barefoot!,
Im not a Canadian, but I just want to say how much I admire you both for making the decision to live in TV alone while hubby's are working up north. I think its wonderful that you found each other in this forum and I may be in a similiar situation this winter, not sure yet but if so, can I join you for a fun day or night out? I have a Canadian sister-in law! Do I qualify???? |
Re: canadian snowbirds
Welcome to ALL from Canada!
I think ALL qualify to create new friendships. What a place--can't wait to come down! Oh--speaking of qualifications hehehe... I am learning conversational French, so those who speak French may be able to correct my many mistakes! *chuckle* Love the language--speaking from a "I know I was French in a previous life". *grin* Man, I love the diversity of people in TV! Blessings, Rebekah (aka eujaynia) |

If you'd told me a year ago (when I had never heard of TV) that I would be headed there, I wouldn't have believed you. My husband has been so wonderful and supportive about my plans! There is a saying "You are always dragged kicking and screaming in the direction of your subconscious". Once I drank the Village Koolaid during my Lifestyle Preview, I was a goner. Can hardly wait until I arrive Oct. 24 .. not long now. :2excited: :2excited: |
Re: canadian snowbirds
Barefoot, Thanks for the invite! I like you would have never believed that I would be buying shortly after I visited the villages!!!! When we drove by the Villages the first time, I said to hubby, What the H--- is that place!! It looks kind of like disney world to me, neither one of us knew anything about it! Next thing we knew "we drank the Kool-Aid" and we were gonners! Its amazing how TV just sucks you in isnt it? Im sure glad we didnt just drive by the 2nd time!!!! :hot: :2excited: Im with you, cant wait to get to "happy land"!!!!!!!!!

Re: canadian snowbirds
We're leaving for TV in 20 days; not long now! ;D I booked our cable and TV hook-up today, and got painters' estimates. I talked to Southern Lifestyles about delivering a bed before we arrive so we have somewhere to sleep. It is starting to become real .. it's starting to happen. My dogs are so excited, they've got their suitcases and dog bowls all packed.
Can hardly wait to get together with everyone! |
