Evergreen Buffet and Grill
Opened in Pinellas Shopping Center - anyone know anything about it?
When I Googled it, one in Inverness showed up as a Chinese Buffet. Maybe the same thing. There are reviews on the one in Inverness on Trip Advisor.

Now that would definitely make me like them just a little bit more ! ;)
We have been to the one in Inverness and it was okay. You get what you pay for with those buffet places. I would give this one a try one day when I don't feel like cooking (which is most days)
I love chinese food buffets, and that's the problem. Most of my favorite dishes are about 1500 calories and over 1500mg of sodium. But it tastes soooo good.
Thought it was a bit pricy for what you get. $13.25 for dinner which made me want to over eat to get my money's worth. Go for lunch if you go around $7.95. Oh they discounted it 20%, not sure what that was all about.
No bar, but our neighbors say the food is good and they keep it fresh by putting out small amounts and constantly replenishing.
I tried the place last week, right after they opened. Normally I'm not big on Chinese food and even less of a fan of buffets, but they have a section where you hand over a bowl of [whatever you put together] and they will stir-fry it for you. That was worth the trip. I agree the price is a bit high, so will try lunch next time.

$8.95 for lunch which is a little high for a Chinese buffet. Food that we ate was pretty good just not enough selections of chicken dishes. No honey chicken, pineapple chicken or pepper chicken or shrimp except peel and eat. Did have a stir-fry grill, but a lot of the selections of meat or veggies were not labeled. Lots of fruits and desserts all looked good. Chicken on a stick was very good. Did suggest on the way out when paying they needed more meat or chicken dishes so maybe being new they will add more. I may go back but will wait awhile to see if they have changed.

worst Chinese food I've had in years. Hot and sour soup is good along with the few predictable dishes that are bought in bulk.
Same owners as the buffet next to Publix on 446 Another thing worth noting. Someone might want to tell the owner to stop making the girls bow repeatedly. It's demeaning and frankly the Chinese don't bow. Japanese bow and they are done with the routine. NG |
Well JMO Wife & I went there last night. I didn't think it was bad at all. We were greeted and seated promptly. Food was hot, refilled as was needed, had an assortment of deserts and the staff was friendly. The taste was that of the restaurant they own in Colony which we also go to. I notice one thing, before we moved here we had lived in the same town for 60 years and got used to a certain taste. When we moved it took a while to get used to new foods cooked by people from many different areas. Granted there have been eateries that have opened that never should have but I don't think this is one of them. We will be back.

There seems to be 2 opinions of who owns this place - the people from the buffet on 466 or the people that are on 466a at the takeout place?

The place was very clean but it is new! Time will tell! The food was ok and plentiful but not as many choices as I'm accustomed to, definitely not $13.25 worth! I asked about crab legs and was told they would not be on the buffet but I could buy a pound for $5. I don't think that was correct as you can't buy a pound of crab legs anywhere for $5. |

Coupon for 20% off total bill, excluding alcohol, on page C7, Local section, of today's Sun, 12/26.
13.25 does seems expensive for a Chinese buffet...the coupon makes the cost more reasonable. Will have to give it a try. The place in Colony was our go to for quick, cheap, and tasty Chinese takeout, but, we felt the quality of the food had gone downhill in the last few years. We will see if Evergreen does better. Hope they are successful.... |
Impromptu Christmas eve dinner. We thought it was very good, very good food, nice décor and extremely polite and courteous servers. I felt I got my 13 bucks worth and will certainly return, next time for lunch. We are very close so we'll be a regular. Trips on and above 466 are getting old.
The food is delicious, especially the pick-your-own ingredients that then get cooked for you on the grill. After one lunch and one dinner, this has moved to the top of our Chinese restaurant list.
They are going to make a special offer on their grand opening date, Jan 16, 2014, buy one buffet and get 2nd one 50% off. Plus you can find 20% off coupons in Thursday Daily Sun Next week.
Do they (or will they) offer MSG-free food? I have blood pressure that is a little high and MSG makes it go quite high.
We tried it the other night. The food was OK. Typical for a buffet. Not in any hurry to go back.
We ate there last week for dinner. Save your money. Food was just so-so.
This thread prompted us to get the 20% off coupon in today's newspaper and head for Evergreen.
Lots of food, good variety, super nice staff and decent pricing, BUT, although edible, it was nothing special. We wouldn't hurry back. Just a little south of so - so. Really quite blah. If you've ever been to a Lin's Chinese Buffet in Texas (there are several) you'd know why we were disappointed. I wish them luck and we'll keep an eye on the reviews. Xavier |
Went tonight around 6:15 and they were very crowded. If you like the food at Colony, you will probably like this place. I find it to be very tasteless. Couldn't get the food cooked at the hibachi since no one was behind the counter. Later I saw a line waiting to get food cooked. Many trays were empty, both in the entrée and dessert areas. Several flavors of ice cream but no toppings. Still looking for a good place for Chinese carry-out but with no luck.

Evergreen
I would rate it 5 out of 10.
It's a expensive for what you get .... there is quantity with some quality! Evergreen provides a wide variety of food. Lunch opens at 11 am and everything is fresh.

Evergreen buffet and grill
We had lunch there today. The bill was twenty one dollars and the food was very good. It was fresh and alot of nice choices.
We ate there last night and enjoyed the fresh vegetables the most. It is owned by the same people who own the Colony Cottage Chinese restaurant. The owner told us that last night.
outstanding - we had a great meal
went last night for the first time. great selection of very good food - a winner!
Buffet
Eat there once, just ok, once was enough!!!
Lunch
We went there for lunch today and agree it's just average. Most food was just luke warm. I'd skip the pre-made food and stick with the create your own stir fry. 5 out of 10. Go to Koyame. Less food but much better quality.
I don't usually like to give reviews on restaurants, everyone has their own taste. My family and I went there Tuesday evening. My husband and I, daughter and 2 granddaughters. We all agreed never to return. VERY expensive. $13.25 and a soda was $2.00. Older granddaughter (19) was gagging!! Very little variety. Sushi was all leftovers stuffed into rice. On the other hand, place was packed so someone is enjoying it! Also, I love the takeout in Colony and some people hate it.
I agree about Koyame! Koyame is, without exception, our favorite Chinese restaurant in or around TV. We live in a Buttonwood and think nothing about driving to Koyame while passing other closer Chinese restaurants. We've never been disappointed with any of our dishes. The Mongolian beef, spicy chicken and spicy shrimp selections are our favorites. The food is always great and served hot. The staff ( owner operated ) is pleasant and very attentive.
Will give them a try. Not too fond of the one in Colony.
