Flu
:cold:Does anyone know of any residents that have contracted the flu this season?
|
Bronchitis, but not flu.
|
Yes! It's here...but not prolificatly yet! Quite a bit of respitory illnesses going around (but isn't that what the flu is...fever, cough, body aches etc)?? There is also a gastro illness going around that lasts about a week too.
|
Flu here in Illinois----a number of folks here seem to not get the flu shot. I don't think that is the case in TV. Will try not to bring it back!

With all the children visiting from up north wait till next week.

Some kind of sore throat virus
I was at the pool and someone said they had a scratchy throat they couldn't shake. Now hubby and I both have it. I don't feel bad just a scratchy throat and sinus pain without congestion, headache and weakness. It doesn't go away quick and I think it may spread fast as you don't at first realize you are sick. Don't know it is exactly the flu however. We didn't get the shot as I waited too long and then was advised against getting it the week we were to fly then as with all things it slipped my mind in all the new to the villages excitement.

Flu, Got it
I was not as fortunate as some and did get Type A Flu after a trip at Christmas. It started with a cough and muscle aches and feeling just a little lousy. Had a low grade fever for the first couple of days, (e.g. 99.0 to 99.5) then on afternoon of third day it spiked to 101.1. Went to Dr and he diagnosed it as Type A after a swab was tested. Put me on Tamiflu and a pretty strong cough med. Feeling better, no temp but still a little cough is lingering on. Understand it should last about 5 days from when I saw the Dr. Thought this may help some who wonder if they have it. Good to go to Dr. or Urgent Care and get it under control. !!!:ho:

Hubby is sick but not sure if it's the flu or bad cold….sinus problems, cough, low grade temp, hurts all over and we haven't been up North so can't blame it on that. Taking care of it on our own so far…Advil Cold & Sinus is helping.

I seem to have started on something today. Sadly, I'm allergic to the flu shot, so that's out for me. Fortunately, I rarely get the flu. Think the last time I got one was about five years ago. Here's hoping this isn't too bad but the symptoms certainly sound like PennBF's (cough, tingly nose, slight fever, headachy). So, this is day one. I'll try to keep the whining to a minimum (I am NOT a good patient).

getting the flu shot does that mean you will not get a different strains of flu.the swine flu is supposedly back with a vengeance and its not covered on any of the flu shots.I do not get flu shots either due to my allergic reaction to them. Everyone around me gets the flu and I don't.my father received his flu shot on time October and is now battling the flu. So luck of the draw or different t strain..pick one

Well we just got back from nj and came home sick. Everyone there was sick and it was a sure thing we would, and did get it. Really tough Christmas it seems like so many families are saying the same thing. It is really bad up north. I hope your son feels better soon.

I am sorry your son is sick and pneumonia is scary and serious. I am hoping his being young and fit will make him well soon. I understand your worrying. I do too when one of my chicks has ANYTHING.I know you won't be sleeping until he and all of his family are better.
I am grateful that we aren't allergic to eggs and can have the flu shot and we all got the one time pneumonia shot too. I know that neither immunizes against all forms of either but anything that helps, ...well helps. Stay warm and safe senior and let us know how your son is doing. |

Rubicon, it might be worth being tested to see if you have a skin reaction to eggs. Being immunized against flu is important at our age. Senior. I am SO glad your kids could make the long awaited trip to see Mickey Mouse and 'em. But gladder they are well. Ahhhh youth. |
The three shots one should get are:
1. Yarly "High Dosage Flu" shot. assuming one is not allergic and can't get one. 2. A one time Pnuemonia shot, at 65. If won't stop you from getting pnuemonia, but you won't die from it. 3. A one time "Singles" shot. Better safe than sorry, as this is a very painful and debilitating condition. One will suffer greatly, if they do get it. Hoping everyone stays and gets well, with the flu bug going around. A friend of mine who worked 15 years in the cold northeast and never got the flu, just informed me he caught the bug, as he is now a barber, and comes in contact with the public. Washing one's hands frequently is a good deterent, as most people get the bug by touching surfaces, that people who are sick have touched. Just my two cents. |
They made it to Disney World and look fine
