Methodists?

My wife would like to try a Methodist Church tomorrow morning, but at my instructions didn't bring anything at all dressy. Any suggestions?

Try Community United Methodist Church. 466A going towards 441. Services are 8, 9:30,
11. 8 and 11 are traditional, 9:30 is contemporary.

Thanks Joe. Any additional suggestions?

New Covenant UMC behind Southern Trace Plaza. Golf cart accessible and dress is casual. Four services on Sun morning. 6:45 9:00 10:15 and 11:30

OldDave, I am glad you made it safely to TV. I can second that the dress code at New Covenant UMC is casual -- at least it was when I was there this past October. I'm not Methodist, but just like to visit different churches when I am out of town. I plan on going back for their Saturday 5:00 p.m. contemporary service when I am in TV later this month. I enjoyed their Sunday morning service when I was there last October -- the senior pastor gave an excellent sermon. And I envied their large choir -- wish my choir was that large.

We LOVE New Covenant! Our pastors are wonderful. We have really been growing and are doing some building. Patience due to crowds is needed, but that is a good thing!

I hear the Methodists are black tie. The Catholics change their golf shirts and shorts and wash their hands.

Know you are teasing, because New Covenant Methodist is very informal.

I was betting that. AND I was teasing. It is the Baptists that are black tie. ;)

Southern Baptists wear hats and gloves when they:pray:

If you wear shorts, put a sweater over your legs. You may be accepted.

How is a Methodist different from say a Baptist or a Lutheran?

Avista 06-04-2012 08:31 AM

I was raised Lutheran. There are different types. Missouri and Wisconsin Synods are more strict. ELCA (Hope Lutheran) is more moderate. By that I mean have women pasters etc. I find the ELCA Lutheran and Methodist are not that different in doctrine. Where I personally see the difference is the Lutheran church has more litergy. Many love the Litergy, others prefer a simpler worship service (Methodist). Even the Methodist alter is usually much more simple than the Lutheran. Before church starts, one is usually in prayer at a Lutheran service. The Methodist church is very welcoming and this time is used to welcome those near you. Even the pastors usually are chatting with everyone.
I like both churches, but my husband prefers the simpler service. We both love New Covenant Methodist.

Not a tiny bit in the eye of the fellow up there. It says so in that book...you know which one.

I was JUST teasing you know. I don't think Baptists wear black tie to church. Or even hats here in Florida.

Nice bunch of Folks, Baptists. Lutherans aren't too shabby either and then of course the Catholic bunch that I hang with...they can be pretty set in their ways but those nuns with rulers are bent on certain ideas.

Jews are great too. Lot of good people there and almost all of them terrific at Mah-Jong. Do you think they teach it after services???

Lovable....all of them.
