Need advice on Palms..Which ones look the best and will tolerate frost??

noticed there are some that get very tall and have all the dead branches hanging off them...think those are the Washingtonian?? :dontknow:

Cold Hardy Palm Trees species and cold tolerance threshold:
True Date Palm Trees (Date Palms are cold hardy to 18 degrees)

Canary Island Date Palm Trees (Canary Island Palms are cold hardy to 15 - 18 degrees)

Texas Sabal Palm Trees- (Texas Sabal Palms are cold hardy to 16 - 18 degrees)

Mediterranean Fan Palm (Mediterranean Fan Palms are cold hardy to 5 - 15 degrees)

California Fan Palm Trees (California Fan Palms are cold hardy to 15 degrees)

Windmill Palm Trees - (Windmill Palms are cold hardy to 5 degrees)

Pindo Palm Tree (Pindo Palms are cold hardy to 12 - 15 degrees)

Sago Palms - (Sago Palms are cold hardy to 20 degrees)

Mexican Fan Palm Trees (Mexican Fan Palms are cold hardy to 18 degrees)

The cold weather temperatures listed above are estimates, and preventitive measures for cold protection can be taken enabling, with appropriate care, the cold hardy palm tree to grow in colder or borderline areas.

My brother told me yesterday that the Queen Palm trees are being hit by a very serious disease right now in Florida and that they shouldn't be planted. However, I've seen many new landscaping jobs that are using the Queen Palms. Has anyone heard about this disease and if so, why are they still planting them?

Whatever palms you decide on please be sure that they have shallow roots. For many palms, there are 10 feet of root for every foot of tree, which means a 100+ foot root system is not all that unusual and a huge drain on aquifers, especially during droughts.

European Fan Palm if you want something that doesn't grow really high but is beautiful.

In our yard the builder planted a palm IMO too close to the house. May/will get relocated or removed.

Hi, I accidentally deleted an email I received. The question was about the Lawn and Garden service that we have.

We do not have a contract with her for any of the services she does. When we are in TV we do, what she normally does.

There are no annual contracts for weeding - cost is $10 per month

Pest control is $20 per month

Pruning, trimming and clean up is billed at $40 per hour, but you are charged in 15 minute increments.

Fertilizer application is based on actual quantities used.

They all sell trees and plants. I found the cost of there plants lower than in some of the nurseries I visited while in TV.

I might add to watch out for the root system of some of the Palms. In front of some of the patio villas where I live the street pavement is raising up and breaking. I couldn't believe the roots when they removed the Palm tree in front that was causing it. Now I am noticing it on others. I can imagine what that could do to an irrigation system.
