Gated 55+ Communities near Boca?

Hi all:

I was just wondering if you all know of gated 55 plus communities within 1 hour and a half of Boca Raton (closer if possible). We have tossed around the idea of relocating closer to our son for a number of reasons. Don't even know where to start with such a search. This may take us even a few years to accomplish but would like any ideas you all have. I know a lot of you have lived other places and I know that there is no greater place than the Villages but we can't pick it up and move it closer to our son.

Because of this you need to know what is what....call a realtor...free... Hottest developments are Century Village....gated condos.

I should have stated a little more clearly. Boca is too expensive for us to find a single family home in a gated community with 3 bedrooms and a lanai price range of $250-260. That is one of the reasons we are looking as far away as an hour. It is hard to duplicate what we have here (not even taking into account the amenities - we know we won't get anywhere close). I was hoping some people would come forward with specific communities that they know of. I have looked at the 55+ website and been in contact with realtors in a few of the towns but so far we have struck out. Most of the homes on the Boca search you did were condos in our price range. I do appreciate it though but will keep my fingers crossed.

I checked out this website and the prices seem almost too good to be true on some of them. Like a dream. I did see that membership of the country club is mandatory so I sent an email to see the price of that. Thanks will do some more checking on this one. I so appreciate the help.

I moved here from Boynton Beach in the Verona Lakes development. It was not aged restricted but the others across the road (Lyons Rd.) were 55+. If you ever saw the movie "The Boynton Beach Club", it was filmed there. Boynton is about 20 minutes north of Boca.
Prior to Boynton Beach I lived in West Boca in the Meadow Lakes development that was not aged restricted but there are several in West Boca that are or were...........You probably wouldn't be happy in Century Village that was advertised years ago by Red Buttons if you are used to The Villages.

Lived in Boca almost 20 years and wouldn't go back for a free home. People are very rude. My suggestion is to stay North of Stuart or further. Many 55+ communities but nothing even close to TV. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the info. North of Stuart is a consideration.

I'm still laughing at your comment when you said that Century Village
is one of the "hottest" developments in the Boca/Deerfield area.

I was a Realtor in that area for 20 years and that is simply not true.
The thought that CV could be considered hot makes me cringe!!

The dues have gone up significantly. My parents built there when it 1st opened. The clubhouse is beautiful, with great restaurants, looker rooms, spa etc. 2 wonderful 18 hole courses and a tennis club. I checked the website and the house prices have gone down significantly. I am sure the initiation fee and dues have impacted the home prices.

They paid the fees up front to move in. Dues have gone up but they paid initiation and equity prior to moving in. Not a cheap lifestyle if you are a golfer.
