Shelter In Need of Pet Food

1 Attachment(s)
The Animal League (aka South Lake Animal League) put out a request on their Facebook page asking for pet food donations. It is puppy and kitten season and they have 10+ little ones and 2 nursing mothers in their care right now. See below what they are needing. You can shop their Amazon Wish List, Chewy, Tractor Supply, Walmart, etc. and have it shipped direct to them at their address below without ever having to leave your home.

They said that the following items below are MOST important:
• Pedigree Adult – DRY – completely out
• Pedigree Small Bites – DRY
• Pedigree Puppy food - DRY and CANNED

Their address:
The Animal League Adoption Center, 4648 Baptist Island Rd., Groveland, FL 34736.

If you want to use their Amazon Wish List: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/l...lgXaqxZLWYXW1o

Be sure to use their Groveland address so it doesn't get shipped to your home. If it does, you can still drop it off down by the Leesburg mall at The Animal League Clinic, 32721 Radio Road, Leesburg, FL.

Yes, they are a non-profit.

And they said in their FB post, "As always, thank you for your generosity!"

For what it's worth, this charity has a 2 out of 4 star rating on Charity Navigator. They don't submit to an audit, and they don't publish the salaries of their employees. Their 2021 IRS Form 990 indicates salaries of $640,000 with no itemized breakdown. Not the best of charities.

I don't know anything about what retiredguy said. All I can say is I adopted 2 wonderful dogs from them who have brought great joy to our lives. They are only asking for dog food.

If they're making $640,000 per year, they can buy their own dog food.

Is this information accurate and been verified by anyone else? I know I have seen things on the internet on what I may have thought were reliable sites that had inaccurate information. And do we know what their expenses are? I know I volunteered with a rescue and it looked like they made good money, but they also had a lot of vet bills. No idea what the cost of running a shelter would be.

I see that on the website mentioned by retiredguy it is listed under it's old name and not the new name. I don't know if it was a name change only or there were other changes.

The website mentioned by retiredguy also says, " Important note on the timeliness of ratings

The IRS is significantly delayed in processing nonprofits' annual tax filings (Forms 990). As a result, the Accountability & Finance score for South Lake Animal League Inc. is outdated and the overall rating may not be representative of its current operations. Please check with the charity directly for any questions you may have."

There are 2 well known websites that review and rate charities, Charity Navigator and Guidestar. You can also read any charity's IRS annual filings, known as Form 990. There are thousands, if not millions, of 501c3 charities. Some are good and some are not. I always use this public information before donating to a charity. Note that the IRS issues a 501c3 status to a charity based on their mission, but they impose no requirement on the charity to have any efficiency or effectiveness at all.

Orange Blossom Baby - I couldn't find that information listed on that site. I did see that I had to look under their old name. I'm not sure that the rating is accurate. It did say, Important note on the timeliness of ratings

You can access the 2021 Form 990 on the Guidestar website.

I always heard good things about the Animal League. The local one in Sarasota is all Volunteer 501-(3)(c) no kill.
