New set of irons

During my next visit in November I plan to buy a new set of irons. Since I am getting older I am thinking about a set which includes hybrids instead of the lower irons. I am left handed and hit an average ball. Do you like the hybrids? Which brands should I consider, I plan to spend approx. $500.00 to $600.00 for the irons, are the local golf shops in TV competitive or should I buy from an internet source and ship them direct to my home. Thanks for any comments.

clubs

Just converted from Callaway x16's to Callaway diablo Edge hybrid. Love the 3 and 4 hybrid. Goes in nice and high, but very soft. Happy with the change. Don't know about cheaper, got mine with frequent flyer points.

I would recommend nothing lower than a 5 iron. I'm about an 11 handicap.

I use a 21 degree and 18 degree hybrid to fill the gap between my 3 wood and my 5 iron.

I buy everything online so I'm no judge of local stores.

hit em straight!

The golf academy at the Palmer course sells clubs. One of the things they do is allow you to play with the clubs they carry for about a week. That way you can try before you buy. The carry the major brands there. I bought a full set of Adams clubs, including bag for under $700 on a demo day, fitting was included. The set has 3-5 hybrids.

Hi ljones, I've only used one brand, so I can't compare them, but I love my 3, 4 and 5 Cobra hybrids. I also bought online.

I've been playing the Adams A3OS hybrid set for a couple of years now and I love them. Senior set includes 4, 5 and 6 hybrids and very forgiving short irons (7 through SW). Got mine from a golf shop back in Georgia so don't know how local prices compare.

new set of irons

It looks like everyone is happy with the hybrid choice, thanks to all for the good information, I think I will try a loaner set at Palmer, even if it costs a little more, it may keep me from making a mistake and not being happy with a poor choice, my wife said no problem with a new set of clubs just make it one set. She remembers all the power boats I've had in my lifetime and thinks I will do the same with golf clubs.

hybrid irons

The Cleveland Hi-Bore irons are all hybrid design PW through 3. It is like cheating they are so easy to hit. I would advise you to give them a try.
