Is there softball in to he summer?

Hi,

I'm a new owner and am only able to be in Fl sporadically but I love to play ball. I saw the post about needing to be evaluated before you can sub but is states evals happen during the season.... So when is it? Is there more than one?

Mudder 08-21-2022 05:03 PM

Try contacting Steven Hammond, 352-633-9680, or bosox8924@aol.com. I got his number from The Villages app.

Next season starts the week before Labor Day in late August. You need 3 separate evaluation sessions prior to being eligible. They are held weekly.

Fast pitch baseball league?

Currently, I'm living in Maine, but when I retire I'm moving to TV. Coincidentally, we WON our 55+ fast pitch baseball league this weekend, going 9-3 on the season. The league is Maine Woods Baseball (you can Google it if you like).

I didn't see where there is a fast pitch league in TV, I'm hoping there is and I just can't find it! In our league, the "fast" ball is really about 40-50mph, some guys still throw junk like curves, sliders, knuckleballs. There is free-substitution, so if you're just tired one inning, sit it out and another guy will take your place. No stealing from 1B to 2B, but you CAN steal from 2B to 3B...you can't steal home if the ball get's past the catcher, you have to stay. It is a ton of fun getting to relive your youth. Some guys had played in A or AA baseball when they were young, so they have more talent than most of us hacks.

Thanks for listening....Clint from Freeport, ME

If you are only in Florida "sporadically", I would recommend visiting the Saddlebrook Softball Complex either Wednesday or Sunday. Activities (warming up, BP, shortened game) start at approximately 1:30 pm and finish around 3. You don't need to be evaluated, that's for the organized, recreational league.

tombpot 08-23-2022 06:31 AM

Get evaluated then you can sign up as a sub, and play when you are in town. Each division has its own procedures on how to sub.

jnsbill 08-23-2022 06:42 AM

Steve runs the open softball (batting practice then pick up game) The Rec Dept runs 4 divisions of Rec and 4 divisions of Neighborhood - thats why you need to be evaluated - there is also the RBL - Restricted Bat League (No Hot Bats) that plays on Tues afternoons - they did play this summer. you can be a sub in any league I believe

For RBL contact Darrin Ivey darreniv@hotmail.com

Softball all year long I believe 16 week seasons. Evaluations happen in season on Tuesdays. Not a big deal, they look to see what division you will feel most comfortable in. Once in, you can move a division up or down a division after the season. Evaluations do not have to happen in consecutive weeks.
No fast pitch that I know of.
There are hardball players that do travel to play.
All softball is coordinated at Saddlebrook Rec center.

Thank you immensely!

The replies seem to assume that the OP is a male.
Just an fyi, grace, women's league has 3 divisions with differing rules.

I think you are onto something.

DatsGrace2U 08-26-2022 07:12 AM

So what does this mean if I (yes , I am a woman) showed up for a pickup game? I was one of 3-4 women in a large senior league. Just want to play ball.
