Thing is - by that time, it was no longer the Bell System. :sad:

A guy I worked with had 12 years service at the time. He lamented that he needed "12&12" just to get to 6&6.

1969=2003 system tech NJ BELL Wasn't that Ford with the black thing, we would sell rt 3s to all the welfare recipient's in NJ

not sure about Ford, but for quite a while, all you could get was a black phone. I'm talking about in the 50's.

Your right/ they were made with a thing called bakelite, heavy as hell but they worked for ever.

42 yrs in April ----last year!!! Remember when we charged for a colored phones? Beige, white, tourqoise, red... $1.00 per month. Black was free. Charged for 13ft receiver cords. Remember 4 & 8 party lines !!! Open wire for toll leads. Seemed like yesterday. We will be down the 1st of March.

We also used to charge for touch tone, and remember all the extra equipment (touch tone converters) that were required ?
