No middlemen. No price games. Huge drug savings

The affordability of prescription drugs is gaining renewed policy attention, but very few have trust in the government’s ability to introduce and pass bills regarding drug pricing reform. Nearly one-fifth of registered voters aged 50 and older, according to a 2021 AARP survey, said they had not filled a doctor’s prescription in the past two years because they simply could not afford to pay for it. Medicare benefits for those 65 and older don’t always equate to the affordability of prescriptions, which has led to rationing drugs and choosing between medication, housing, and food. These are choices that no human being should have to make.

The dire concerns of a nation have been heard, and a healthcare hero has arrived in the form of a billionaire on a crusade to shake up the pharmaceutical industry, one prescription drug at a time. Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs, launched exactly one year ago, is on a mission to change the industry's operation. The transparent business model of Cost Plus Drugs is simple- the wholesale price Cost Plus Drugs pays for the medicine plus a 15% markup, a $3 pharmacy fee, and a $5 shipping charge.

One TalkofTheVillages.com user stated, “A 90-day prescription of Raloxifene costs $145 at CVS and only $18.80 at Mark Cuban's Cost Plus. That Price includes the $5.00 shipping fee. Big difference!"
Another stated, "Telmisartan, BP med. I paid about $140 for 90 days. I just checked with Cost Plus, and I can get it from them for about $27 plus shipping."

Other examples of cost savings through Mark Cuban's Cost Plus Drugs include the leukemia drug Imatinib, which has a retail price of more than $9,657 at other pharmacies and costs just $47.40 at CPD. They are also selling a generic diabetes drug, Pioglitazone HCL, which typically goes for between $70 and $90, for $6.60. And the list goes on and on.

Reforming how we pay for pharmaceuticals in the United States can and will make drugs more affordable for patients and will also save billions in federal dollars. But until that happens, the savings have begun to arrive in the form of alternative and more reasonable and competitive prices for human beings who don't have time to wait on policymakers.

Great timing...My friend (the one I mentioned in my original post) and I were talking more about this topic...she's an actor, author, and advocate for affordable insulin, and she knows how expensive lifesaving insulin costs. People with Type 1 Diabetes pay up to $1000 per month for their life-saving insulin. She recently learned about Mark Cuban’s insulin test program for insulin Lispro and hopes that it is expanded to all those who need lifesaving insulin. The program has been offered to a limited amount of patients at this time and states a “90-day supply of insulin for $170.00” including shipping.

The program trial is not open to the general public, but there is a link you can click on for more information.

You can check out my friend's website...she has some really great resources, books she recommends, etc.
