Cell phone service

I Recently moved to TV. I have an LG phone through Straight Talk. I have found that at night the reception does not work. I have heard my neighbors say they have similar problems. Please share with me and TV land your thoughts. What cell phone service works the best in TV?

Thanks.

When we had Straight Talk in Georgia, we sometimes had that issue. We switched to Verizon there in Georgia, and now in TV, with no problems at all.

My wife has used the Straight Talk Samsung Proclaim for over a year and a half and has had no problems here in The Villages or traveling up north. The Proclaim uses the Verizon Network.

Verizon, by far, has the best service currently in The Villages. Both AT&T and Sprint are currently in the process of upgrading their towers in the area.

We use TracFone and have no problems anywhere in TV..

It sort of depends where you are in TV, as well. Our Sprint service is seamless, but others have said theirs is not so good. There are two sides of the fence on Verizon as well. It seems AT&T has the most complaints here on this forum.

If Straight Talk is using Verizon, your problem may go away.

We have a Magic Jack that we use in the house frequently to safe on cell battery and because it's easier to hold for long conversations (I can never find the blue tooth every time one of our sons calls.)

do you have the magic jack plugged into a computer or your modem? I just bought one and cannot get it to work through the modem. I was on live chat with magic jack support for quite some time today and finally just gave up.

We have it plugged into the modem. I can't remember if we had trouble setting it up or not.

We've had Verizon Wireless for the almost ten years we've been here. Never failed to connect - no dropped calls. That kind of says it all:icon_wink:

We live in Fernandina and have Verizon. I drop at least four or five calls a day. So we are now looking at other options. It really depends on where you live.

Good service from Verizon in my home.

I am in the Eastern side of Gilchrist and have an Apple I-phone 5 on the Verizon wireless network. I get 4 out of 5 bars in the middle of the house ( a stucco Iris). I also have my network with Brighthouse and get the WIFI inside seamlessly.

In the last 2 and a half years I have had Straight Talk, Verizon, and sprint and with each have a problems with connections and dropped calls. I think that it depends upon where you live and where you place most of your calls. Whatever works in one place might not work 1/2 mile down the road. This seems to be very localized, with proximity to disruptions high on the list of factors which determine reception. Good luck.

I had Verizon the first 3 years in TV and experienced occasional dropped calls from around TV. I switched to AT&T and have had fewer dropped calls but occasionally cannot connect from home in Pinellas. Does someone know for sure they are in the process of upgrading the towers. I feel like AT&T way underestimated the number of users in this area.

It's not always the cell service...

Just to bring up another point....It's not always the strength of the cell signal that causes problems with calls. The phone can also be part of your problems... All phone have an antenna and some are better than others. I have sat across the table from someone, who had a Blackberry with full signal, while I sat at the same table (iPhone) with no signal...we both had the same carrier.

Just another data point to consider . . .

I have Straight Talk using AT&T cell service and it works very good all over The Villages. Phone is a Galaxy S2. I used to have TMobile and it was awful.
Also use Magic Jack Plus connected to the router (not the computer) and it works good especially for the price.
