Storing a Gas Golf Cart
 

We are Villagers but not yet full time.

We will be making 3 one week visits this year and 2 or 3 next year until our move here full time in September 2015.

Because we usually arrive mid day Saturday and leave early morning Saturday or Sunday it is hard to work a golf cart rental.

We will be buying a gas cart so the question is can we buy it now and leave it sitting for the 3-5 month periods between visits without damage or should we just use our car for the visits and wait until we get here for good?

best bet is to wait gas does not last that long anymore.and the additives do not work over long peroids of time, beleive me i know .

We had a similar situation as you. We used Sta-bil marine type fuel additive without problems. Before we left for an extended period, I'd treat the fuel, drive it around for a bit then put the cart in neutral and run the engine until the fuel was used up in the line, carb and fuel filter.
Never had a problem doing it this way.

I would personally wait so my warranty time doesn't get eaten up while the cart sits unused in the garage.

I add fuel stabilizer to every tank of gas. Before storing fill tank, add necessary stabilizer, connect a battery maintainer. ("Battery Tender" is one brand).

I'm seasonal. I store my car, and lawn tractor up north, and my golf cart here for 6 months at a time and have had no problems.

Most shops recommend using: "STA-Bil" marine formula, ethanol treatment or "STARTRON". (available at Wal-Mart)

Philnpat is correct here - but would like to add - make sure you get the BLUE Sta-bil - there is another product out there by same name that is RED in color - add about 3/4 of an ounce to a tank of gas and procede as stated by Philnpat - this can be purchased at about any automotive store, Walmart, etc.
Remember if you go this route get the BLUE colored version.

In addition to the fuel additive, I would recommend that you plug your cart into something such as a Battery Tender.
