Weather Geeks

Could someone who is weather savvy please tell us gardening freaks what the temperatures actually got down to and for how long last week. We are all amazed that our plants didn't take more of a hit so there is a lot of speculation as to how cold did it really get???:cold:

Thanks for you knowledge - assuming you have some answers.

Not sure what the low temp was, but the killing frost was avoided because winds never calmed through the night as forecast.

Bizdoc 01-13-2014 07:03 PM

Also keep in mind that there are often significant differences in the micro-climates within The Villages.

It's not so much the cold that kills but the frost, which we avoided.

Go to Weatherunderground (wunderground.com) and they have personal weather station all across the country. I wish I had the link at hand as it is not easy to find but there is a weather station in Sable Chase the has an hourly history of the information that you are looking for.

After I get off TOTV I will look and find the direct link as it is not connecting now for some reason.

I dunno, but all of the trees in the parking lot of the Library across from the Charter High School have turned red and orange like it was fall.

I believe it was in the high 20's overnight, both days. I don't know for how long, and if it qualified, for the deep freeze parameters.

Gracie - I have seen trees throughout TV that have changed and putting on a spectacular show - guess the cold temps are good for something!

Virtual Geezer - thank you - that is exactly what I was looking for. So we weren't in freezing temps that long as expected which explains why we didn't have a massive kill.
Hope we stay lucky with the next cold front. Thanks again.

The weatherman said tonight on the news that there is a chance of snow flurries in the Jacksonville area and as far south as Ocala either Thursday or Friday night.

There is another website for climate conditions and I can't remember the name however I found it thru university of Florida extension office. One of their reps were at a workshop for florida plants and landscaping held at Colony rec center and he told us about it. The university also does workshops for irrigation and master gardener.
