Florida $25,000 resident state exemption

Hi,

I have been told two different things about when the deadline is to apply for the Florida Resident $25,000.

On this site I read that you had to be living in your home by the end of the year to qualify for the exemption, on another site that I can no longer find, it stated that you had until the end of February of the following year to qualify for the previous year.

Please let me know where I can get clarification of the above.

Thanks

Hyacinth Bucket

HY...both statements have some truth. You have to own your home and be a Florida resident by 12/31 to qualify for the next tax year. You have until Feb (or March??) to complete the application for it to go into effect for the upcoming tax bills.

How do you apply for the exemption?

Re: Florida $25,000 resident state exemption

lavndr....assuming you live in Sumter County.... application can be done in person at the Sumter County government Annex building at 466 and Morse Blvd; application is made to the Sumter County Tax Collector. They have the forms there and will do a quick review while you wait. If you are out of town, recommend you call the tax collector's office to get the procedure.

If you are in Lake or Marion County, will need someone else to fill in the blanks.
