HELP 3 way switch in bedroom
Had a 3 way switch for bedroom light. Found it would go on and then off by itself so something was wrong. I replaced the outlet and also bought new one of the 2 3 way switches. My brother was down here visiting and by the time he was done, we had power but no 3 way. I can turn bedroom light on and off but there is no 3 way. Anyone with the expertise to help can takeover. It is simple and yet I do not have a continuity tester.
I have POWER to the OUTLET but the two 3 way switches are not connected in any way to the outlet to control ON/OFF. I have to manually turn light on and off. So the wires on 3 way switches providing continuity are not in right place. Thx Vin Powell Chatham across from Lopez 315.246.1056 cell |
Do a Google search "how to wire a 3 way switch".
I found a video but it would not post here. |
I was afraid this was another Swingers discussion. ;)

The issue is with the new outlet. There are a couple of little tabs that connect the upper and lower outlets together. These tabs must be broken off so one outlet is wired directly into the house current and the other connected to the 3-Way switch. If the tabs are not broken off, the line that is not switched is feeding both receptacles.

I think you will find the top plug is switched and not the bottom.

Yes you were right...tabs broken and 3 way light switch works.
