Saving money on home phone. $$$
 

I get phone service from Century Link. I'm not signed up for long distance, just local landline service at $31.06 per month.

Sunday I saw an ad in the Daily Sun for "AT&T Wireless Home Phone". For $20 per month you can get unlimited local and long distance. But I was unsure about getting wireless and I don't have much need for long distance.

About a week ago I received a letter from my phone company inviting me to get a review for possible savings. So I called them and was told I could get regular phone service, plus 30 minutes long distance (per mo.) for 15.95 plus tax ($17.06). Anything over 30 min. long distance would be billed at 5 cents per min.

That's a savings of $14 off my regular bill of $31. So I agreed to it and that's what I will get from now on.

Did anyone else get the same letter from Century Link? Did you call them for a review?

Had the AT&T service in Illinois before we moved, just unplugged the device, plugged it back in when we got here. No problem we kept out our telephone number. The monthly fee gets tacked on to my AT&T cell bill.

We have internet home phone (Ooma) with unlimited local and long distance for less than $4 per month. We are very lite cell phone users so we went with a Tracfone for about $6 per month. Home and cell for just under $10.

As long as you have a hi speed internet - go with Ooma. Less than $4 a month ($99 start-up). I've had it for almost 4 years and couldn't be happier. No long distance, no extra charges. (For $99 extra per year you can get multiple phone numbers - auto forward to your cell - more).

I have Verizon as my cell carrier. A couple of years ago I replaced my "land line" that was costing me over $45 per month with Verizon Home Connect which costs me $20 per month and ported my home phone number to it. It is basically a wireless home phone. We still have a home in CT and just unplug the device there and plug it in here. Unlimited local and long distance and the clarity is excellent.

We still have a Centurylink home phone here for 2 reasons: we bundle it with DSL internet/wifi so it only costs about $10/month. Our combined internet/landline bill is about $60/mo. We have DirecTV which costs us nothing when we are gone for about 4 mos. in summer.

Also, I am constantly misplacing my cellphone or forgetting to turn it back on. Our condo in Ohio is smaller, we don't have a golf cart to leave the phone in, nor a lanai. Probably I would keep better track of it here in TV if I didn't have the land line, but I also like the security of being able to find the phone to dial 911 if needed.

If we didn't need to have DirecTV (for a sports package for Ohioboy you can't get on any of the other options), there are probably better options thru your cable company or even Centurylink with Prime TV bundles.

We have had Ooma for 4 years now. I just ordered an other box to bring to FL and install. There is nothing cheaper or as good out there than Ooma. If you search you can find discounts getting the cost down to $99. Monthly fees are under $4 for taxes. Yes you do need to have high speed internet.

Who is your ISP, and how much does that cost per month? Thanks!

We use Comcast stand alone internet service for $40 per month. There are no extra "fees" paid to Comcast for using Ooma.
