Saving Energy - Nest Themostat - Do You Have One?
As we all know Heating & Air Conditioning can be one of those monthly bills we would like to control as much as possible.
Just wondering if anyone has installed a Nest Thermostat? Here is a link to more info about it - https://nest.com/thermostat/life-with-nest-thermostat/ I would welcome any comments as to how you like yours. Thanks. Gordy |
I installed my Nest about a year ago. Amazing product. Monthly emails showing usage so I always know what to expect with my electric bill. "Away" feature is great because there is so little waste of energy and no matter where I am, I can always see what the temp is in the house and control it from afar. Install was a cinch and it looks good too. Money well spent. I am definitely saving money on energy usage. Not sure just how much at this point, but saving!

One of my favorite features is the capability of turning on the air - when I've been out of town for a weekend or few days - on my way home. So the house can be 90 degrees when I'm driving home and when I get an hour or so from home, I just bring up the app on my iPhone and kick on the air making a comfortable house when I walk in the door.

Did you install it yourself or have a contractor do it? |
Looks like a very cool product and something that a snowbird should have at both houses!

A little on the spendy side but after 2 years it may pay for itself. And it seems that Google has purchased this company recently so, I am sure they have future plans for home gadgets.

If you are thinking about buying one of these as a money saving feature and you are a snowbird remember this. You will need to keep your comcast internet or whatever you are using in service. We suspend ours when we leave so that would cut into whatever savings you might consider. That being said it is still a nice feature to have.

If you have a Carrier AC their new T-Stat is awesome with lots of control. If you are out of town for the summer add on a humidity stat that will control your AC only turning it on when the humidity gets too high... thus the temp inside the house does not matter just the humidity level. You will save money$

Good point... there goes your savings and then some! See my post above. |
The Nest thermostats are wonderful. I've sold and installed a couple dozen this year already. My customers love them. They're very simple to operate.

Does the Nest indicate the humidity, and would that eliminate the need for a separate humidistat??

Nest Install
I installed mine in about 30 minutes. Email the Nest tech support if you have any Questions. I will install one in our Canadian Cottage this Summer.

I decided to go with the Honeywell WiFi model. Works like the Nest and you can monitor/change setting from anywhere you have an internet connection.
I installed myself in about 30 minutes... Not sure it saves me any money, but it's cool and fits well with my ever expanding connected home. |
Note your heat/AC system must have a "C" wire to install most wifi thermostat. If it doesn't you'll have to run a wire from your unit to the thermostat.
