Tax Time

Hubby usually does our taxes using Quicken, but he hates doing it and is considering having it done. Has anyone tried a service such as H&R Block around here, and if so, would you do it again? Are they accurate, reasonable?

I don't know about here but. I have two bothers one is a financial wiz and the other can't balance his own checkbook guess which one works every year at tax time for H and R Block. I don't think they are very knowledgeable. Just my fear.

Seasoned tax preparers at H&R Block are VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE. I was one for 10 years. I have also passed the CPA test which no one I did taxes for knew, because it is irrelevant to doing taxes. CPA's in my area sent their employees to H&R for training. Income taxes are a miniscule part of the CPA exam. Ask for an H&R preparer with five or more years of experience and you will be fine.

If you don't have to file a state income tax return, the nice folks at AARP TaxAide will prepare your returns for free. They have all passed an IRS approved training course and passed an exam on the areas which they cover. They do have limitations (mostly if you should have a professional accountant, they probably can't do your return). For the vast majority of us, they do a great job.

And they do all of those returns as a way of helping their fellow Villagers.

This sounds perfect, how do I get a hold of them?

Very good suggestions! Thanks to all.
