Do you know anyone who air conditions their garage?
 

I see that many or most folks have a screen door in their garage door opening. I'm sure that cools off the garage more than with the garage door closed.

But for those who also use their garage as a workshop or hobby area, do many people air condition it? If so, is a through the wall unit allowed? An insulated garage door would be a must.

This is a Mitsubishi Electric super slim heat and or air unit. Very reasonable and great for cooling off workshops and enclosed Florida rooms.

Pricing runs about 2800.00 for air only about 3500. for heat and air unit.

I put one in and they are great.

Why wouldn't a 10,000 btu thru-the-wall Amana/Goldstar/Kenmore for $400 work?

No through the wall or window air condioners are allowed (deed restricted)

Thanks for the Mr. Slim link. That is a solution, but not cheap.

But deed restricted, even if it's effectively screened from offsite view?

What would it cost to increase the main unit by a half ton and installing a duct to the garage?* Close the duct off when you don't want the AC in the garage.

I need to ask the forum's AC sponsor, Sun Kool, this question, don't I.* Is it cost effective to "trade out" systems to increase capacity compared to spending $3,000 on a separate "hidden" unit?

After all this, it would seem to me that a through the wall unit could be installed so it is flush with the outside wall, creating no more impact than the grillwork which could be painted the same color as the house.* And if installed three feet off the ground, there could be bushes planted a couple of feet away.* Are the deed restrictions THAT narrow that they don't consider the ultimate effect?

[center]That being said, why not place a large portable box fan in the entry door from the garage to the main house? This of course is assuming your working in the garage and the main home unit is running.[center]

Does "good luck" mean "goood luuuccck", as in "lots of luck" :cop: like we'll get a foot of snow before that happens or is it "good luck" like there is a chance, but we really don't know for sure until we ask a specific question?

I like your response. Just another consideration I know folks who also ran and air duct into the garage with varied results.

You never can tell what the Villages will and will not approve. So what can I say. Its all about protecting the community in general not a specific home owner.

We put in automatic attic exhaust fans that go on when the temp reaches 90 degrees at our summer home in cali

A neighbor had it done. The contractor insulated the walls, replaced the standard garage door with an insulated version, poured a small slab outside for the compressor and installed the condensor in the wall. Efficient and very quiet.

So, I take it that deed restrictions do not require the garage to be used for the parking of cars?

not required to park cars in garage....can park in driveway; can't park in the stree
