Seat Belts

Why doesn't Florida have a seat-belt law for golf carts? Every time I hear about a golf cart accident (and there are plenty), the injured person falls out of the cart. We all need seat belts, in a car or in a golf cart!

What do you think?

WE HAVE AND USE seat belts in both our carts because WE BELIEVE they offer protection to us.

It is not ANYONE else's business, or concern, whether we choose to use seat belts in our cart or not.

What may seem to be well intended zeal, soon becomes very intrusive.

This is what I think regarding "all" needing seat belts in carts…..

Thanks for asking.

Regards,
Don

It was thought that seat belts put people at more risk in golf carts -- if the cart rolled, the person was now in a vehicle that had no support and odds were the skull would be crushed. Since golf carts were intended for golf courses at slow rates of speed, being ejected and severely injured was less likely to occur. Today, carts are frequently used as a mode of transportation on public streets and paths. The risk of injury from being ejected has increased exponentially. So, yes, seat belts do make sense. But is a law really necessary?

I think if you want seat belts you put them in, if you don't want them you don't put them in.

I put golf cart seat belts on the same list as lightning and lottery tickets.
I don't have lightning rods and do not buy lottery tickets.

Golf carts...slow speed vehicles used to get around the golf course.

Tis a personal choice.

You asked us what we think. I think you should definitely get seat belts since you stated "we all need seat belts".

Some of us may feel differently ... it probably depends on which set of statistics you read. I don't think we need a law.

Personally, seat belts make sense on the multi-modal paths, but a law requiring them every time you use the cart??? Can you imagine how many times you'd have to fasten and unfasten those belts if you play a round of golf? Not for me!

I think those same reports say the cart turned over, have you seen how easily the 'roof' collapses on a cart...nope I don't want to be crushed by the cart. Yes we go faster in the carts on the paths...what stability measures have been added to stay upright....none!

For any of you who have had seatbelts retrofitted to your cart:

who did you use, and how much did it cost?

Thank you

We have a four seater and installed seat belts for all seats. We have grandchildren who visit frequently and feel it is much safer to have them securely strapped in. We also use them and feel much more secure. We got ours at a local auto supply store and installed them ourselves.

I second "South Of The Border" Don. ---could not be splained any better.

The theme throughout is choice (now where have I heard that before). I believe in seat belts so much that I had LT, my ex-lover's, retrofitted as a birthday gift. Any of the repair service business can retrofit at a cost of $150 to $200 for dual belts.
