WOW TECO bill tripled!

I know it's been cold but was amazed to open my bill today and find it had almost tripled from the previous month! After several unsuccessful attempts to reach a human at TECO by phone I was told it was the same with everyone and they were barraged with calls today!

Be sure you have yours setting on heat rather than the one that makes it heat fast. They told us that can really raise your bill.

I was hoping someone would fish me out. It is very hard to read our thermostat, but I do know where heat, cool and off are and know to avoid the other ones. They warned us of not using that one setting at walk through.

It will usually say Emergency Heat or something similar. Do not use that as it turns on the heat electric coils. You want to use the heat pump function only.

Your bill would go up if you heat with gas. Look how cold it was. Also added to that bill could be your increased use of your clothes dryer, & gas range if they're not electric.
TECO = GAS CO. SECO = ELECTRIC CO.

Teco is the gas bill. Not all in the villages us electric heat.

Mine tripled too and don't have a clue why. If anyone gets an answer from TECO, please share!

Yes, TECO is gas! They just told me it was colder! We only have "heat" cool" "fan" or "off". Of course the price per "whatever the measurement is" is up also. I love the $15 per month charge for "providing this service to you"!:BigApplause:

Our TECO bill increased, because in addition to having the heat on in the house, the heat was on for the spa to keep things from freezing. It was COLD and the heat was on probably more than many of us realized.

A monthly service charge from utility companies isn't uncommon.

Graciegirl is referring to a heatpump. That would be electric and has another setting (emergency heat) that uses heating coils instead of the heat pump. The emergency heat function is for when the temperatures go below @35 degrees. Using it a lot would cause your electric bill to skyrocket like that. Your gas furnace will only have the settings you mentioned.

We've been here almost 3 years and the highest gas bill was only $62. I didn't realize it had been THAT much colder this winter. Haven't used the dryer more and, for sure, not the range! LOL. I think the rate is a good bit higher this year! I am delighted that it's getting warmer but would love the gift of days without heat or a/c! :coolsmiley:

I read today that natural gas prices are at a five year high. :(

Natural gas prices, up more than 45% year-to-date on cold weather demand and slumping supplies, surged 11% Wednesday, hitting their highest levels since 2009.
