Golf cart shortcuts

I know there are many golf cart shortcuts in the villages. I personally only know of a couple, but it does help when one is getting from point a to b. I am wondering if anyone has written these down, or do you just have to find them on your own. thanks.

As far as I know, you look at a map and see what the shortest way is and try it. If you like it you tell others. Then someone will say this way is shorter or faster. Beware of faster because somethimes it is longer and needs one of those illegal high speed carts.

Sometimes "shortcuts" are through a neighborhood that otherwise is not suppose to be a thoroughfare. Imagine if you lived in a place where carts typically did not run, then suddenly somebody found a shortcut and hundreds, if not thousands of carts came by each day. :yikes:

I suspect teekart is referring to the legal shortcuts of which I have found many that are not on a map, I too think if someone marked all these on a basic map they could sell them at the square for a buck or 2 and make some money.

I didn't even know there were ILLEGAL shortcuts!

I was referring to the paved shortcuts that I have been told about to get to a few golf courses. learned about a new one yesterday. just thought someone might have recorded them. Yes, I would pay to know of them. Would not use them often, just the few times I play a specific course. So the neighborhoods would remain quiet.

thanks for the response.

this iwebsite is a great resource for unbiased information about the villages.

Agree that this website is a great resource for unbiased information about TV. Wonder how long someone selling such maps on the Villages squares would last?

Oak Forest Drive in Glenbrook is a perfect example of one of those streets which was intended to be a street in a quiet neighborhood and is now the "Daytona" of roads within TV. It should become a permanent radar trap area. :cop:

I am pretty sure Aztec Loop - shortcut to El Diablo/El Santiago was not meant to be a shortcut. To slow traffic, they have had to put up two stop signs and a series of speed bumps.

Hi, this isn't short cut info, but a need for info.

How do you get from Belvedere Villages to Carrabas Restaurant? I have heard you can get there, but can not figure how to get there.

H.B.:
Sounds like quite a long haul, but here's what I'd do:
Head east along Parr Drive (runs just north of the Library and along the walls of Tall Trees Village). Go thru the tunnel under Buena Vista Blvd, and continue past Laurel Manor Center along the path on the south side of CR466. After you pass Hospice House and Sumter County's Annex, you'll take the tunnels under Morse Blvd and then CR466. Go north on Morse to the light at Rio Grande. Then east on Rio Grande to the exit into The Villages Green, just prior to the gate on Rio Grande at Avenida Central. Cut thru the parking lot(s) at the Green and you're in Rolling Acres Plaza, where Carraba's is situated.
Beware on Rio Grande: the golf cart lane is narrower than we're used to south of CR466, and the joint between the concrete curb and the road's tarmac presents an annoying ridge which may be awkward to negotiate (kind of like trolley tracks in the road, if you've ever encountered those!)

Thank you for the directions and the warning as we navigate our way to the restaurant.

:agree:You sure got that right Cliff. I purchased a house on that street and then wondered why all the golf carts and cars were were flying by my house, that I thought was on a dead end street. I found out too late. They recently put up 25 MPH signs but they pay attention to them like they do the stop signs.

Re: Golf cart shortcuts

I feel sorry for you, too, sparky. I also live on Oak Forest and have been furious about the increase in cart and auto traffic since people decided to use it instead of the cart path alongside Buena Vista. I have attended a number of CDD3 meetings and have voiced my outrage about the speeders and shortcut seekers. The Sumter County Sheriff has increased speedtrap setups during the past few months. At the CDD3 meeting today a Deputy advised the Board that five citations have been issued on Oak Forest during the past month and three of the citations were issued because the cart was exceeding the speed limit for carts. But, instead of just a speeding ticket, they were charged with driving an unlicensed vehicle. This allows the fines to be increased over the normal $180+ speeding fine. In these three cases, they were fined $300+. I'm all for it too. I hope to see a speed trap there on a weekly basis just to catch the cart speeders.
