Another Solicitors Thread

We've been full-time residents of TV for a little under a year now. And we couldn't be happier. We did our homework and pretty much knew it would be good before we got here. So no surprises in that respect. But nothing's perfect of course. And my one issue so far is...

...door-to-door solicitors. Mostly tree trimmers. I haven't done all my regulations research yet, but I assume this is not actually "legal" in TV. Or is it?

Anyway, I have no problem simply saying 'no' to these folks and moving on. But it does raise other issues imho. I walked out front this morning with my dogs, and Katy immediately starts barking. She doesn't do that unless something is awry...in here very protective opinion. I direct my attention to where she is looking and there is a man standing in our driveway up by our garage door. I don't know if he was on his way to our front door, just looking around our yard for prospective trees to trim, or what. But I could imagine the behavior of somebody with more nefarious goals being very similar. :undecided: I've had three tree-trimming solicitors (hopefully) come to our house in the last week alone. It hasn't typically been that frequent, but still.

So, is it "legal"? If so, argh! If not, what are the appropriate actions to take.

Thanks for your advice.

No, it is not legal for people to solicit in The Villages. I imagine you asked the man what he wanted and then told him you were not interested and he left.

You should have noted the time and the type of vehicle he was driving and called Community Watch immediately.

If the guy had taken any move toward you or not left immediately, you should retreat to the house and call 911 from behind your locked door.

If it is safe to do so, you could take a picture of him and his license plate

I put a sign on my door: "NO Solicitors". It does work.
