Now we are warned NOT to leave gate & garage openers in cart

"Ole Boy" played Hacienda CC today and was warned by starter, to NOT leave openers in carts...They are being stolen, gate cards are being sold, openers to personal garages are being tested in neighborhoods to see if opener will work with someone's garage door!....Yipsters!

Yeah, alot to be concerned with. :(

BTW, What does "Yipsters!" mean? I have seen that on TOTV before, perhaps from you...LOL. I'm not familiar with that word.

This little tidbit of information surfaces every time a little crime appears. Makes for a nice urban legend.
Don't get paranoid...............................

However

If you have MVP garage door openers, they apparently are not as secure as the more popular consumer models available at Home Depot and Lowes. The better garage door openers codes change each time they are used thus making it hard for someone to scan your codes or for one of your neighbors to accidently open/close your door. It is a common occurance for MVP door openers to open/close accidently when someone else operates their own remotes.

And no, I do not own stock in Chamberlain or Stanley garage door openers.

Gate passes being stolen has been an ongoing problem since I have lived here. Someone loses their gate pass and seems to think it is okay to take someone else's. Not nice but it happens.

As long as you don't have an address in your cart (like your social cards), your garage door opener should be safe. Really haven't heard of anyone having their opener being stolen (and I know several Sumter County deputy sheriffs quite well).

It nice to read someone with common sense. Thank you

My opener is so wired to my golf cart you'd need some serious wire cutters and time to take it down. I thought my husband was paranoid when he first did this years ago..now thinking he's the smart one.

My wife and I recently went to LSL for dinner in our cart. When we came out we were surprised to see we had left out GDO, Social Cards and both of our iPhones in the cart cup holder. Luckily they were still there but we were both stunned that we did that. It will not happen again.

It only stands to reason you wouldn't want to leave your garage door opener in an open golf cart. We have had changed the code to our garage door several times as it kept going up or down when anyone did anything in the hood... A friend locked her car door and my garage door went up. If someone takes your garage door opener.... It's possible it could open MY garage, or someone else's garage!

I seem to remember a couple of years ago someone posting their garage door went up, and when they looked outside, someone was driving around the hood with an opener to see what doors it would work on. If my memory serves me... That person still posts on here. Maybe they will see this and come on and relay the story again.

We now have a different system and lock them down at night! I don't see any reason to leave my opener in my cart.

Steve, if you have an MVP garage door opener system you'd have to use the MVP remote wouldn't you? So you'd have to have a whole new system to get the better ones, right?

If a gate pass is stolen, can it be deactivated so no person can use it? Just curious. I know we have to pay to have another one, but wasn't sure if stolen one can be cancelled out.

You get a new pass (well, 3 new ones) and all old ones are deactivated sooner or later.

I have left my iphone in my card when i went to lunch or dinner after golf by mistake. And it was there when I got back. There are a lot of good people in the villages.
