Renter id pass for golf
 
We live in Villages have friends renting for month of March Now that they are here the person they are renting from is only giving them guest passes as he says he needs his village id and cannot turn it in He owns the house but lives with his friend Help is there not something he can do for them l think he has only been issuing guest passes to all his renters and they maybe were not golfers or did not know the difference If he is living with his friend should he not be able to get a card from her >>> Thanks if anyone out there has a solution I realize there is a 50 fee which would be fine as they want to get on village net etc

For your friends to get a resident ID card, the owner would have to turn in his ID card for that time period. He might be able to get a guest ID but I'm not sure about this. So, I guess he's not willing to give up his privileges to make money on a rental. I'm sorry to say that there really isn't a workable solution for your friends. What will make matters even worse is if they try to get in an activity that is full -- residents (whether renters, snowbirds or frogs) will have priority. Frequently, guests are unable to do the activity during snowbird season.

Red is right . If Bob is telling you a way to do this where the owner still has his ID and then he's found a way around the system & that's not right.

No getting around it..if id's are not turned in only guest passes are allowed...like my parents they have no need for residents id's..guest passes work for them.

If you are going to golf with them you can get the tee times. No need to get on Village net for only a month, just call and make tee times.
Maybe they could go to golf office, explain situation and they can offer solution. Otherwise, it's renter beware.

This is a HUGE problem for the OP and should have been disclosed before the rental agreement was executed. I don't think a guest can play the Exec courses without a resident, and even if they can it is $15 a round to ride. movies are more expensive, can't get into Katie Belles, Rec Center classes are limited and so on. The landlord should have disclosed up front and the rent should be considerably discounted IMO. I wouldn't rent from them under those conditions - period.

Coming to The Villages you want the Resident ID. Did the owner advertise the amenities in their ad? Did the contract state they would have access to the golfing? If not, it could be a problem for your friend. We are learning this as we write the contract for a house we plan to rent. We have clearly defined they will get the resident ID. There is a huge difference for a renter between the resident ID and guest pass. There's a form the owner fills out when a guest rents the house. It costs the owner $50.00 to transfer the Resident ID to another person, unless it's clearly stated in the contract the guest pays the fee.

It sounds like the the owner of your rented house wants his cake and eat it too. There are so many needs for a resident ID.....you must be a resident (or have the resisdent ID) to use sports pools and to participate in many clubs and activities.

Visit the Sales Office in Spanish Springs (ask for Brenda) or the Sales Office in Sumter Landing to explain that the renter did not provide you his resident ID. It may cost you $50.00 but it will be worth it. The ID provided by the Sales Office will entitle you to do everything a resident can do. If he rents his house, you should become the resident and if he wishes to live with a buddy, he is the guest. He needs to choose: rental income or his Villages ID.

If it's a new owner he may not understand how things work. We are in that boat, but are like hound dogs getting answers.

Everything in The Villages is very well defined. From this forum we have figured out what direction to go to educate ourselves. I encourage all new owners to get the facts and more so, if they plan to rent their property. It isn't fair to the guest to think they can play golf and arrive to find out, they can't do so.

There's really not much Brenda can do for the renters in this situation. Without the owner ID being turned in, she can't issue the paper resident ID cards. If she tries to be a nice guy and help these folks out and is caught, she loses her job. Please don't put her in this position.

Someone does need to do a Gibbs slap on this owner. What he is doing is, to me, morally wrong, greedy and exceedingly selfish. He had to know that his renters would expect to get ID cards so they could participate in all activities.

i agree with red...but we do not know if it was stated that no res id's were offered...my parents declined them as did some friends..discounts on golf is only if you choose to play..and the discount on movies is not a deal breaker.

Don't forget this is the busiest month of the year for rec centers. Many activities are denied to guests -- the rooms are too full and residents have priority. So, not only are they denied "free" golf, they are excluded from many of the activities that make the TV lifestyle so special.

I presume the poster found a solution as I was never contacted. I was not going to publish my suggestion, but then, why not.....Presuming the landlord was not upfront with his renters, he/she may also be renting the property without collecting and paying the bed tax (9%). My suggestion would be to look for the required tax id....if it was not displayed, I would call the landlord and try and use his tax oversight as leverage to turn in his id.........heck, I would report him in a New Yourk minute.....perhaps the leveraging is illegal anyhow.
