Enclosed Lanai
 

We have a Gardenia model and someone told us our house would get too dark if we enclosed our lanai with tinted windows & the privacy screen. Would appreciate comments.

Is it too dark with the shades pulled closed?

Which direction does your lanai face? You can always get a solar tube.

We have a Gardenia and our lanai faces west. We put in lightly tinted (same as sliders into house) and cool shade screen wraps around the outside of the glass installed by Custom Windows & Design of Leesburg. We put the regular screen on the side towards our patio with the full length glass door. We don't feel it is dark at all but would depend which way you face.

I need helpful tips re enclosing lanai. Moving into TV in 2 weeks and think we want to enclose in glass. Is there a process that will allow us to see out, tinted, but block anyone from seeing into the house day or night? Any pitfalls to avoid? Any contractors you can endorse or warn us of? Will appreciate any comments at all.

I would definitely recommend Custom Windows & Design of Leesburg. This cool shade screen they use blocks from seeing in during the day and you can see out. During the night if you have a light on people can see in. They usually have a 1/3 page ad in the Daily Sun almost every day. Go to their showroom off of 441.

You have screens on the outside of your windows? Don't they get dirty from rain and dust, etc.?

I concur. We have been very pleased with their work and the fact that they follow up to see if any issues have arisen.

There is a Begonia up for sale that has an enclosed lanai with windows like this that you can see out of during the day but people outside cannot see in. At night you could see in if there were lights on in the house. I do not know who did the work but it was very well done.
