How many initially discounted moving to The Villages because of the heat/humi...

Did any of you initially say, in referring to TV "I'm not going to live there - it's too darn hot and humid."* If so, what factors changed your mind?* And what do you say to those who harbor that opinion still?* I know humidity is "relative." (pun intended ;D)

This question comes from one who lived in Ft. Lauderdale 40+ years where humidity averaged 80% plus, lived in St. Louis where the humidity averaged 30 to 50% yet my neighbors from sunny, dry California complained (daily) about the humidity!

I was one of those people, no way was I moving to FLA because of the humidity.

We were just in TV and prior to this trip, we were there last July.

It was hot, it was humid but what I noticed were the evenings - a nice breeze and where it was still muggy, it was definitely tolerable.

When we returned home to IL; it was more hot and humid here than it was in FLA! I couldn't even go outdoors!

I don't have a comeback to give people who make statements like "how can you move to FLA, I would never move to FLA because of the heat" I just let it go over my head!

When I lived up north, my lips and hands, especially, would get dry and the skin would crack in the dry winters. And this condition will NOT get better with age! That problem is much less for me in Florida. I still need the occasional Chap Stick.

I knew I was going to move to the South but had no idea where. I knew wherever I moved to I was going to be miserable until I adjusted to the humidity (probably will take me about 10 years sigh). I knew I was NEVER, ever moving to Florida. After visiting a friend in southern Florida, I re-confirmed I was never moving to Florida. Then I visited a friend by the Suwahnee River. Okay, that was nice. Rural but nice. Next stop was TV. I fell in love with the community, the fact I could be as busy or not as I wanted, that I might be able to find a job (of course, no one told me a living wage was not a factor of working here). So, after several stops around the South, I homed in on TV. No regrets yet (and I still HATE the humidity!!!!).

i stayed a snowbirder for my first 7 years because i feared florida summers. but eventually realized i was heading north just as the weather here was settling into warm outdoor pool session. longer days with pleasant evenings etc.
i'v been full time now since 05

I find a lot of people comment about the hot summers, but it all depends on what you prefer. I'd prefer two or three hot months where I can still get out and around in the mornings and afternoon/evenings (walk or golf cart) than 4 or 5 months where I have to be concerned about ice on the ground and scraping it off my windshield while I heat up the car every morning.
The website for realtor Lyle Gant has a link on the weather which is interesting as well:
http://www.lylesellsfla.com/community_reports.shtml
If you're from the Northeast, I also looked up the average temperatures as well as record highs and was very surpirsed, comparing LI and Lady Lake:
Record High Temperatures:
June Lady Lake, FL 100 Long Island, NY 101
July 100 103
August 101 102

The numbers don't lie, and neither do the smiles on our faces ;D

I agree with travelstiles..we visited and bought in August 2006 and let me tell you the summer heat/humidity of N Va was just as bad if not worse than TV. The problem, if there is one, is instead of having heat/humdidity for 3-4 months you now have it for at least 6 months. Dont get me wrong it is hot and it is humid but you learn to plan your day as to when you paricipate in sports etc.
