Steel 2X4's make it hard to hang mirror, help!
 

We closed on our home Feb 12 and found everything to be just as designed. We couldn't be happier with our home! We are very excited to be Villagers at last!!

When we started to decorate our house we had trouble hanging a mirror in the entry hall. After looking back at photos taken during framing, we discovered that the wall in question is framed with steel 2x4s, this after placing a series of holes in the wall, of course!

Patching the drywall is no big deal, but how on earth do you hang a heavy mirror or framed art work on these steel 2x4 walls?

I'm sure some of you must have run into the same problem.

We hung a very heavy pot rack on a kitchen wall and the fella that did the work found the metal stud and drilled into the center of it and put a large bolt into there. I could
probably do pull ups on this pot rack it is so secure.

Another option is buying drywall anchors at Home Depot or Lowes. You don't use the studs at all. There are drywall anchors that hold alot of weight. Thats what we have done, and all is well.. Very easy to do.

We have a 200 lb. mirror hung by The Village Hangman, Roger Dudis. That is the name of his business and there is a noose on the side of his truck. He is a villager and lives in Bridgeport at Lake Sumter. He attached a shelf like piece of metal on the back of the mirror and and shelf like piece of metal on the wall.


It took him, Sweetie, me and friend Diane to lift it into place.


He hasn't ever given us any money or gift cards for saying good things about him. Nor would we take them.;)

I hung a very large antique mirror with same situation. Had trouble finding the studs with my stud finder until I changed the setting to "metal"...surprise! And of course the placement for the hook was right between the two studs. A mollybolt would not work because the screw would have to protrude a bit. I have a wire in back, so I actually but a screw in anchor in the wall flanked by two 100 lb test picture hangars. I figure with 3 sturdy hooks it won't go anywhere...so far so good!

There are drywall hangers that do not need to hit a metal or wood stud. They are shaped like a triangle and have 3 nailing holes in it. Some will hold up to 100 pounds or larger. Found at Home Depot and probably Lowes in the hardware section with the other wall hangers for pictures, etc.
