Sweetbay to Winn-Dixie?

I was just at Sweetbay Pinellas Plaza. I was told the changeover has been moved back until April 12. Happy Shopping until then, or do you Talk of the Villagers like Winn-Dixie?

Sweet Bay

Much prefer Sweet Bay, but will give Winn Dixie a try to see what kind of experience I have.

Neither like nor dislike. Both have the same basics.

We've been to WD in other towns. Still prefer Publix.

The Winn-Dixie in Wildwood has better fried chicken than either Publix or Sweetbay, IMHO.

They have better rotisserie chicken too. Publix's has a slightly off, chemical taste, and Sweetbay's is very, very salty.

We shop at both Publix and at the Winn Dixie in Wildwood. Publix is a great store, where you can find almost everything you need...almost. Have found items at Winn that were not available at Publix. Also, the produce guys are great at Winn - they will peel and cut up huge butternut squash if you just ask. The fish counter is decent, and they will steam your crablegs/shellfish, etc., if you ask. If you need sugar free cakes or cookies, the bakery department at Winn has a better selection than Pubix. Ditto the sugar free ice creams and novelties. I have no idea what the new Winn Dixie at Pinnellas will be like. My only real complaint about Winn Dixie is their deli department. They carry an extremely limited selection of Dietz & Watson (every bit as good as Boar's Head) cold cuts, which is about the only thing I've every mentioned to the store manager.

I've always found Winn Dixie's meats to be good and better than at most other super markets.

That was their claim to fame (in their opinion) and the center piece of their marketing campaign for decades.

I also like Winn-Dixie's steaks and pork chops and chicken better than Publix.

Hubby likes the meats much better at Winn-Dixie

NEWS FLASH !!!!!!! Sweetbay, Sav-A- Lot, and Yes Winn Dixie are all owned by the same Company !!! Just like, Aldi owns " Trader Joes...

aaffmom 03-10-2014 05:17 PM

Trader Joe's is privately owned by Theo Albrecht, one of two brothers who also owns Aldi. While both companies are owned by the same entity, they are independent of one another.

Winn Dixie bought Sweetbay last spring. At least the Sweetbay in Pinellas will become a Winn Dixie. Latest date for that is April.

I don't know if the Sumter Sweetbay will become a Winn Dixie. I will be sory to see Sweetbay go. They have some unusual items that I really like. I liked shopping all three grocery stores, although we mainly use Winn Dixie.

Winn Dixie offers a whole lot more BOGO items; prices are better than SweetBay unless they change...I shop at the Winn Dixie in Wildwood as opposed to Publix at Colony because you can never find a parking place at Publix...........
