The Price of Gasoline
 

In 2004, the price of regular octane gasoline was $1.85 per gallon. As of December 2007, the average price of a gallon of regular is $3.06. What's the price per gallon that'll break the camel's back (personal or national) and that'll compell you to scream?

JohnZ - We were in Paris earlier this year. Gas was between $5 and $6 a gallon and it still took us an hour and a half to get from airport to apartment because of heavy traffic. I think people will just adjust to higher prices. No doubt there will be dislocations and inflationary pressures, but the adjustment will be made IMHO.

RD, we will undoubtedly adjust. There's really no other short-term option. That said, I'm just wondering what it will take for folks to really start screaming. I think EU prices got to where they are over a long period of time. What we are experiencing here in the U.S. is a dramatic escalation to say the least. Such a sharp increase over a short time span could create a big problem. Thanks for the note.

Unfortunately we will all pay regardless of what the price is. What choice do we have ? Sure, there are no more joy rides for me but what about the necessities?

How long we'll be willing to lay down and allow ourselves to be robbed?

I think at some point we've all got to step up and insist that significant resources be channeled to the develpoment of alternative energy sources instead of supporting the status quo.

When I was in the Army in Germany in the mid 60's gasoline "on the economy" (not a special US military price)(US military could get discounted prepaid cards for gas for personal vehicles more in line with US prices) was about $3.50 or so a Gallon. Price in the US at that time was about 45 cents or so a gallon.

I was recently in Italy and the price was about $7.00 a gallon or about double the '65 price while we in the US are paying nearly ten times what we paid in '65.

It seams that we are headed to matching the price Europe pays. If that happens we will probably match their use of bicycles, motor scooter, tiny cars and extensive public transportation also.

Price is not the issue with American people. Did you ever think that $3.00 a gallon would be acceptible??? As long as "availability" is OK people will pay>>>
