Neighborhood Watch Program

Does any village have a neighborhood watch program? Do we need them?
Should all TV participate, or should law officers alone protect us?

USAonWatch.org | Neighborhood Watch, Crime Watch, Business Watch, A Program of NSA
this is a program of the National Sheriff's Association. Everyone's comments are welcome.

We have an informal neighborhood watch in that we will question a different car in a driveway or something else that is unusual. Especially during the summer months when some of our friends go north. We know who handles landscape maintenance and question if someone different is there. Sometimes results in strange looks. One day we confronted people walking around a home of a seasonal resident during the summer. Turns out they were friends they had told to take a look through the windows as they were interested in TV.

That is a good neighborhood watch system at work! There was no way for you to know who these people were if your seasonal neighbors didn't tell you they were coming, and you were justifiably concerned.

Good question.

In my opinion, every resident should be a "neighborhood watch individual."

If I (you) see something that doesn't look right just call either community watch or the police. If everything turns out okay - no harm done.

If not, maybe you prevented a burglary - or worse!

:agree:

It is not the job of neighborhood watch people to confront suspects. If you see something suspicious, call Community Watch or the Police.

Can we all spell George Zimmerman?

It's the old story . . . If you see something, say something.

Obviously, that's to be interpreted as something wrong or out of the ordinary.

I always tell 2 neighbors when we will be gone (and try to give them contact numbers just in case). When I know that they are gone, I check for mail, etc at their house as they do for me.

I have called community watch over suspicious vehicles. I would hope that everyone would do the same. No matter how hard they try, community watch and Sumter Sheriff can't be everywhere all the time.

Oh yeah, be sure to thank the nice people at community watch and the various sheriff and police departments. We may get irritated when they tell us not to speed, but they really are looking out for us.
