Do You Refill your Printer Ink Cartridges?

Liquid Ink printer cartridges are expensive. Period! Some brand/models are worse than others... but it is pretty much universal... expensive!

Do you refill the ink cartridges for your inkjet printer?

If so, how well has it worked for you?

have you looked on-line for third party cartridges, instead of buying HP/Epson etc.?

I have used generic for years with no problems, and they are often less than half the OEM prices

still more expensive than refilling, but a loss less messy :-)

I tried it once. It was a deal where I send in my empty cartridge and I get in exchange a full cartridge. The experiment resulted in a cartridge hemorrhage and the death of my printer.

I have not seen any OEM, "Newly" manufactured cartridges.

All I have seen are original manufacturer cartridges recycled (i.e, refilled) by some small company that sells them over the web.

If you know of a dealer of "New" OEM cartridges, please share the link.

The problem I have read about recycled cartridges (i.e., refilled by third-party), they tend to have fairly high rates of problems.

The generic ones I've tried had poorer color accuracy for photos.

I do not print many photos, and the few I have printed were done with a printer manufacturer cartridge.

But I have read the same thing.

I have been refilling printer cartridges for 2-3 years. Had to purchase INK, and also a 'resetting' device, as the printer I use has a chip on the cartridges. This has worked very well over the years. The process needs to be done carefully, but if you do it correctly, the results are very good.
I use rubber gloves, an old needle, and silicone rubber to seal the refill hole (this is very important). Occasionally I have had the reset the cartridges a second time as the first time did not take.
Hope this helps.
Oh, please do not ask for the ink supplier, I lost that info when I moved here, and will need to actually do some research soon when my supple runs out.

Do you have an internet link to information about the resetting device?

I have used G&G for years with no problems - just search on ebay adding your printer model number.

I buy genuine HP cartridges on Ebay. I look for the ones that are in the original packaging. It saves lots of money especially if you have an older model printer (not brand new but a year or so old). I've gotten expired cartridges before but they work just fine. I don't stockpile cartridges though as they my dry out. I haven't had much luck with refilling my own. My fingers were blue for 2 weeks. Also using the remanufactured cartridges didn't work for me as I found my HP printer to be sensitive to anything but genuine HP. Good luck.

I wonder if keeping them in the freezer would work? I only ask because once they stop making a certain cartridge the price of any still out there skyrockets, and once they are all gone the printer is useless.

I don't know that might work. Ebay does have some of the older cartridges. I don't go through cartridges that fast and have found that just the other day the color wasn't working on my less than 6 month old printer and I took out the cartridge, used a wet q-tip and dabbed the cartridge where the ink comes out and put it back in and it worked fine.

I buy direct from HP, and get a discount..rather have peace of mind than taking a big chance ya get what you pay for....every time.

It used to be that you could take your empty cartridges to Walgreens and they would refill them for you for less than half the price of a new one. But we didn't think the ink lasted very long.

I tried that at Walgreens when we first moved here. My printer said it recognized it not being "genuine HP" and would not operate. I took it back to Walgreens and she said about half the ones they refill are returned because they don't work.
