How many safe driving tips for TV are there?
 

I'll start with a few I like:

Assume the other driver WILL NOT stop for the stop sign.

Know that they will move into your lane while in a traffic circle....they will also move into your lane without looking on the straight away as well.

Assume the other driver will not yield approaching a traffic circle.

Drive as if there are no cars with turn signals in TV.....most of the drivers do that!

If one does the speed limit be prepared to be over run.

Lastly as you go down the street and a car is at an intersection waiting, it is guranteed they will pull out in front of you....my take on this one is they cannot see and when they finally see you they think they have plenty of room/time.

These may sound humorous however they are presented in the most serious manner.

Any to add to this list to make TV driving safer?

Yes... don't trust them when they DO use their turn signals. Half the time the turn signal hasn't turned itself off.

Also, count to three before proceeding when the light turns green.

Get into the proper lane before entering a roundabout for the direction you want to travel exiting it. And assume the other guy isn't in the proper lane.

Exactly! I used to get upset about drivers not using the turn signals, then....I realized I didn't believe them anyway, so no worries!! LOL

Or....look left, right and left before proceeding. Has saved my life more than once!

Boy are all of your observations right on target, but, what puzzles me is what are the drivers soooooooo bad here? I travel outside TV, to areas where there are other retirees and the driving behaviors are not nearly as bad. Why here?

One big thing related to driving here: Never in my life have I seen more people step off the curb to cross a street without bothering to look right or left at all, for moving cars.

They just wander out in front of cars, looking straight ahead like everybody's gong to stop reliably for them to go lollygaggin' across, in their own world apparently. They walk in front of moving cars without looking in parking lots too, and where cars are backing out.

I cant figure out why people think they can just step out in front of moving cars and trucks and not LOOK for what could hit them. I wont't step out to cross like that even in a crosswalk......drivers come from varying states and not all have the same crosswalk law saying drivers must stop for walkers already in the crosswalk.

I have to think part of it is that some people act as if this is a resort, not a community.

There are many drivers just gazing at the scenery, or searching for an address. Be ready for them to stop short, and make erratic turns.

Three stand above all others imo...

#1 Don't tailgate...ever...anywhere...at any speed;

#2 In roundabouts, don't drive alongside another vehicle...ever...no matter where you are entering or exiting;

#3 See #1.

1. Always be careful and drive defensively.

2. Be especially careful in crosswalks, in parking lots.

3. Never proceed thru a roundabout, alongside another car.

4. Always expect the unexpected.
