Suspicious People On My Street

With all the talk lately about being on the watch for people who look out of the ordinary in our neighborhoods, I called community watch this afternoon about 3 people walking up our street and going up to each house and leaving some kind of religious advertising. I was informed by CW that the Supreme Court had ruled that they were allowed to do this and there was nothing they could do about it. Same goes for political solicitation door to door.

I don't like the idea that persons from outside the villages can canvas our neighborhoods and can easily tell who was home who wasn't. I'm fairly new to TV, but I thought that there was a no solicitation policy that was enforced by Community Watch.

Nothing is enforced by Community Watch.

Community Watch is correct. According to law, Religious groups, charities and political groups are exempt from the no soliciting policy. They are also except from the Do Not Call rule

I guess you could put a sign on your door, No Solicitation. Other then that you pretty much live on a public street.

How suspicious did they look?

graciegirl 03-24-2014 03:41 PM

As suspicious as people look who are dressed up the way most of us used to go to church.

I just take their literature and say I'm really not interested.

Here is another thread on the subject.

OP - thank you being aware, calling Community Watch, and sharing your information on TOTV.

You are a treasure of wisdom! I agree that anyone in a coat and tie in The Villages would be viewed as suspicious.

Of course, you could always "sic" Helene's trio of attack cats on them.

Especially in a " Grey or Black " TRENCH COAT....Get the picture ..

karostay 03-25-2014 12:44 PM

Take their picture and see if they run away

Did you know deed restriction rules or did you think they were for other people..:a20:

Lovey2 03-26-2014 10:06 AM

Well...since I've moved here, I've seen any number of items in peoples yards. Water fountains, cat statues, little fake planters, birds, frogs, flags, big old bright ugly flower pots I assumed (yeah, yeah, know all about that) that if an item was fairly harmless it would be acceptable. Pretty much the same way I assumed people wouldn't let THEIR dogs crap on MY lawn. Or that people wouldn't get on here to seemingly pick fights or mock. There ya go...wrong on 3 counts! Also, if I had an issue with a neighbor, I always went directly to them...no Code Enforcement, no calling police. Hey...that's just me. I am still:a20:

Mr. Buggy : Was this a sarcastic reply directed at the OP ? " You are a Treasure of Wisdom " ? Why do you so often post such missives . It only serves to discourage people from posting at all .

I think the whole post was in jest.
