Who are your favorite top 5 "groups" from the early 60's, mid/late 60's and 70's?

Early 60's: 4 Seasons, Drifters, Everly Brothers, Dion & the Belmonts, Jan & Dean

Mid/Late 60's: Beatles, Temptations, CCR, Rolling Stones, Monkees

70's: Chicago, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Grand Funk Railroad, 3 Dog Night

Hard to pick groups, eliminates too many great solo artists, but will try.

60's: The Supremes; Four Seasons; Four Tops

70's: The Stones (always and forever); CCR; Doobie Brothers; Janis Joplin & The Holding Company; The Who; Velvet Underground

If I include the 80s (hard for me not to do so):

The Cure, The Call, The Clash; Eurythmics; Genesis; Police; U-2; INXS and many, many more

Well, Janis died in 1970, so decided to make her late 60s/early 70s (was too lazy to type late 60s). Sides, only way I could mention her was to add The Holding Company. Killed me to not say Jimi.

60's - 4 seasons and Everly Brothers.

Late 60's - Beatles and Temptations.

70's - Chicago and Eagles.

I knew the Rascals, back when they played on "The Barge" in Westhampton beach on LI.

Rascals' original lineup—Felix Cavaliere, Gene Cornish, Eddie Brigati and Dino Danelli

The club was literally a barge the owners built a club on top of and these guys were regulars there, lived nearby in cabins on the beach and they were always hanging out on the beach in the daytime. I think '65-'70 it was there until it moved to NJ.

They went their separate ways in the early 70's, finally reuniting for one night in May of 1997 when
Steven Van Zandt inducted them into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In 2010 for only the second time in 40 years, The Rascals once again reunited for one night and took to the stage at Robert DeNiro’s Tribeca Grill.

This is really hard since I had to dispose of 4,000 record albums when I moved to TV three years ago. My first concert was Vanilla Fudge in 1968 in St. Petersburg the week after they appeared on Ed Sullivan.

I saw the Allman Bros in 1969 at a club in St. Petersburg 2 months before the release of their first album. They were opening for a band called 'Cat Mother & the All Night News Boys', who were a one hit wonder but did have the claim to fame that Jimi Hendrix produced their debut album.

My current favorites are Kings of Leon and Muse.

Those are my top ten .Yes there was music in th 70's ;;; in fact for me it was the best decade for music!!

Actually, the Eagles, the Allman Brothers, Derek and the Dominoes, the Cars and Steely Dan were all in the 70s.

One of the problems with a list like this is that a lot of bands were successful over multiple eras. For example, Led Zepplin was formed in the late 60s and continued to produce great music through 1980.

Early 60’s:
The Belmonts-after splitting with Dion, they a had a bunch of medium-sized but great hits. Check out their album “Carnival Of Hits”.
The Ronettes-They didn’t have a lot of hits, but “Be My Baby” is one of the all-time greats.
The Drifters
Late 60’s:
The Beatles
The Rolling Stones-did their best work in the 60’s
The Moody Blues-overlap into the early 70’s
Simon & Garfunkel-maybe not technically a “group”, but must be included.
The Byrds
Traffic
Jefferson Airplane-Airplane only-no Starship
70’s:
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band-still great today.
The Eagles
Pink Floyd
Steely Dan
The Starland Vocal Band-Yikes!!!!

Every artist listed so far is a wonderful part of our American music heritage and I love 'em all!

I am fortunate to have made my career in the music business and have played tunes by most of the above....and below. The first tune I ever played live with a band was Louie, Louie.

As a kid in Hawaii I played mostly "Surf" music then British and then moved to the east coast and played "Beach" music, then Southern Rock and then lots of R&B.
