Homeless assistance program helps snatch alleged child molester.

Pinellas Park police say authorities in Troy, N.Y., contacted them Wednesday regarding 25-year-old Jesse Sawyer Jr., who is accused of raping three young children and then posing in pictures with them earlier this month.

Sgt. Adam Geissenberger said officers made contact with Sawyer at a U.S. Highway 19 address in Pinellas Park. Sawyer was "cooperative" while police contacted the FBI to confirm the arrest warrant.

But after an hour passed with no confirmation, they let Sawyer go.

A short time later, the FBI confirmed the warrant. But it was too late. When police returned to the location, Sawyer was gone. Police used a police dog and a helicopter in the unsuccessful search.

With the assistance of a church program that helps the homeless in Pinellas County, Sawyer turned himself.

This is a story out of Pinellas Park, Florida about how a homeless assistance group based in a church helped capture an alleged sex offender.

I say we need more people like this helping to talk sex offenders to turn themselves into authorities. And, unless this person is bragging about his crimes to roommates or others, it would be very hard to know that you had a monster like this in your midst.

I agree on all accounts and yes, we need more people reaching out to the homeless doing small acts of kindness.

My first thought when watching the video was this guy does not look like a child molester. Quickly, I had to remind myself there are no physical attributes defining evil people.

I agree more groups such as the homeless assistance group you mentioned would be helpful.

I would like to believe they could make an alleged sex offender turn himself in,
but I think that's stretching it.
There aren't many offenders of any kind that will turn themselves in.

Just a point of information:
There are a number of sex offenders living here in the Villages.

Take the sex offender list with a grain of salt. All of these are not the perverts trolling the streets. In some states, a person can be placed on the sex offender list just for public urination - probably when drunk and behind some bushes - and be unlucky enough to be caught.

A 20 year old guy can be placed on it for having consensual sex with a 15 year old girl even though she told him she was 19.

True, there are some sexual predators who did something mighty bad and deserve to be identified.

Regarding the sex offender list --
the list will tell you what the person's crime is, so there isn't any guessing.

I do take these with some uneasiness. We should all do more research if we can about how people get on these lists, how the states vary in what kind of information is in them, etc. http://www.ehow.com/info_8214144_pro...-registry.html http://sexoffenderissues.blogspot.co...l#.Uza0vWePLIU
