Child Cart Driver

Did anyone read the MIX in the Southside Daily paper today? They published a picture of a child who obviously was not 14 or older pretending to drive a Golf Cart. She had her hands on the steering wheel and pretending her foot was on the gas. What a terrible picture. It pretends a Golf Cart is a toy and it would be acceptable to have a person under 14 to drive it. At a time when Golf Cart safety is being advertised the paper elects to make it look like a toy. Where the heck is an editor that recognizes this shameful demonstration of
recklessnes? I would hope the paper would publish an appology and explaining that was not the not a message they wanted to foster. :MOJE_whot:

Oh I think it was a cute picture of a little girl posing as a driver. I have pictures of myself that my parents took of me in the drivers seat of a car.

What did the paper say when you called?

Any picture that is deemed cute makes the paper, And as my maiden post...I feel that when a younger crowd is in town, Grandparents will do a lot to keep their Grandchildren happy and entertained which is completely understandable...However, with the increased population, anyone who is under 14 should NOT be driving a golf cart whatsoever.

Honestly, many younger people do not understand what The Villages are about and how we operate, which causes dangerous situation for us all. I understand that people in TV want to give their company a great experience, but it isn't safe sometimes

Pretend Driving bothers you? Thought it was cute! Did same with my Grandson and never had key in or left Driveway. He was Happy and so was I. Loosen Up !

Not a toy

I have to agree with the OP. It's like putting a drink in the hand of a minor and saying its happy hour at the squares from 5-7. Even though the minor isn't going to drink the drink, it is perceived that it's ok for a minor to drink. Maybe under the photo of the child on the drivers seat of the golf cart they should have mentioned that golf carts are not toys and should be driven responsibly by a qualified driver.

I would be very concerned IF the child was actually driving a cart, but amused by a pretend scenario. I can appreciate your concerns about the safety message, but in this case I respectfully disagree.

It was a picture of a child PRETENDING to drive a cart.

I read the posts as saying, you think people are so stupid that seeing this photo, they will let their grandchildren drive the cart.

I played cowboys and Indians when I was young but I didn't grow up and shoot native Americans. Maybe I would have if the local paper had published a picture of me in my Hopalong Cassidy outfit.

Just wondering why some people feel the need to be sarcastic and degrade a concern the OP expressed? Why can't some be a little more tolerant? Possibly an attempt at humor? Hopefully the OP will see it that way.

No humor intended on my part. I think my analogy was fair and appropriate. I believe the OP's concern is unwarranted and over the top. One should not post an opinion and expect only agreeable comments.
