Hold Mail Question for Snow Birds
 

I'm looking for suggestions at what others do with their Florida mail when they are still snow birds and head back north. I already have all of my utility bills via e-mail so that is not a problem. Typical mail hold is only 30 days. In fact, there is not much mail in general but I don't want mail just sitting there.

Previously we had a true vacation rental home and there was a general "do not leave mail" and it seemed to work.

Any suggestions or hints would be helpful.

Instead of asking the Post Office to hold your Florida mail, why not just fill out a temporary change of address form and they will forward your mail to your northern address ?

That's what we always did, and it worked fine. The PO would forward it for six months. You can fill out the form online, or get one and hand it in at your postal center.

Also, our postal guy in Tamarind Grove said they are used to holding people's mail. It's no biggie to them. They line boxes up inside the postal room and keep the mail till the snowbirds return.

Easy to do as rayschic suggested - can even do it on line and get email and snail mail confirmations - costs a dollar on your charge card and is good for 6 months or more. Can extend the date and then cancel the transaction when you are returning to the villages and can do it all on-line!

The charge on your credit card has been increased to $1.05. I guess this is the Post Office's attempt to cut their deficit.
