How to get anoles out of the lanai and house

My question is not about snakes. Its about the little lizards( dont know what they are called)
How do you get them to stay out of lanai and house? Ty Carrib

The little lizards are called anoles. Lots of people call them geckoes but incorrect.

They get through the smallest openings you can imagine. Probably no matter how well sealed you have everything, they will still get in. You could invest in a snake for your lanai to keep the anoles away.

We have cats that LOVE to play with them......

I usually smack them with a broom and then throw them in the neighbors yard.

I use a flyswatter.

They do enter the lanai through the smallest of openings, but do no harm so I don't mind them there. They do startle me when they occasionally get in the house, though. I came face to face with one on the foyer wall as I answered the door the other day. Both he and I were startled!!

I do keep an eye out for them now... when we have an open door.

If they are on the floor and you're fast enough to throw a dishtowel over them, they will freeze long enough for you to scoop them up and shake them outside where they will go on their merry way.

I think they are sweet little critters. :)

Aw, I can't even imagine killing them with a fly swatter or broom.

Spray them with hairspray. They sort of freeze and you'll then pick them up and put them outside. In a couple of minutes they just disappear. HONEST!

We sort of just gave up on putting them out. We keep the double sliding doors open to the lanai all of the time (weather permitting). They really don't do any harm and, in 5 years, we've never found even one in the house.

You are so bad and I love it. My good laugh for the day. Still laughing!

We don't see any on the lanai or in the house. I am suspicious that the kitties know more than they are saying.

I do have a couple on the front porch that after I refused to buy insurance from them get back at me by pooping on the porch railing. I think it is a nefarious plot.

I just love your sense of humor .............

So back to anoles in the house - nasty little things move so fast - but, they eat the tiny little bugs that hang around the doors and then die because they cannot live indoors for too long.

jblum315 04-07-2014 04:23 PM

Gracie, at least they don't ask you to join their church!

We have siding and have stuffed two things under the bottom panel of siding inside the lanai. One is a fine bubble wrap and the other steel wool. The steel wool rusts and makes a mess but both have been effective at keeping them out of the lanai, therefore out of our house when the sliders are open.

I heard they taste a lot like chicken.

They do, but then you are hungry again an hour later.
