Real Estate Article

FYI:

This morning there is a featured article "A New Kind of Ghost Town" on msn.com that is well worth reading for those who are looking at retirement communities throughout the country.

The article covers different kinds of new housing developments but has some focus on retirement communties that are springing up with plans to capture the baby boom market.

The perfect storm that has been brewing for brand new retirement communities is beginning to hit. The overall real estate market problems coupled with the fact that many boomers will be working longer for various reasons, especially to hold on to health insurance, is taking its toll on what many developers thought was a ripe and ready market.

The main thing that attracts us to TV, where we are likely to buy eventually, is the fact that it is already mostly developed. And while its size can seem a little daunting at times, we consider that to be an advantage. Even so, there are still lots of things to consider before making such a large and important investment, and we have to take our time.

Anyway, I thought those of you who like to read about real estate might want to take a look at the msn.com article.

BB, Thanks for mentioning the MSN article. http://realestate.msn.com/Buying/Art...5241&GT1=10729
Developers going bankrupt in this crazy housing market needs to be considered when making a decision to buy into a retirement community. George

Re: Real Estate Article

This article brings to mind several positive aspects of The Villages for those considering a retirement relocation:

- Those of us who retire in our 60's know there is little time left (20 +/- years?) to enjoy life. (My "plant-no-small-trees" philosophy.) We don't have time to wait for our new community to recover and mature.
- The Villages is here. It is a full-fledged community. Even in the new areas under construction, the roads, water, sewer, storm drainage, golf courses, clubhouses, and pools are built well in advance of the surrounding homesites. :clap2:  :beer2:
- With regard to Florida's ad valorem tax meltdown, which will result in local governments becoming more and more hard-pressed to provide an acceptable level of community services because of the looming tax revenue constraints, The Villages, because of the CDD system, won't be impacted to nearly to the degree of a "typical" Florida city - only to the extent we depend on County services, which is not a whole lot.

Thank you very much for this link to article about an extremely important issue! Although it doesn't apply to us..... we decided earlier this year to make TV our home but of course many friends are beginning to look at options for their retirement. I will be sure to share this with them especially my neighbors next door who don't know it yet but TV is the perfect place for them. lol
