LION golf cart batteries vs Lead Acid batteries
 

I have been doing some research, and found some listings for LION golf cart batteries. They sound like a light-weight alternative but... is there any downside to them besides the initial cost? Any ideas what the life span is? Maintenance? Combustability?

Keep an eye on the Testla cars, they are sinking big bucks into them, when they figure out it will go mass market, as of now $2000 for golf cart batteries are .....well a ?

Unless they last three times as long.

2000 dollars and last 10 years and get 70 miles on a charge? Works out as a good deal
Lead acid is as out dated as the internal combustion engine, but as of now is still the best bang for the buck. This will all change in the next few years.

How long do lead acid batteries last on average?

If maintained properly 5 years, some I've seen go 7.

But if run dry, deeply discharged too many cycles or not maintained on a charge of some type only a few years.

i maintain my batteries properly and have needed new batteries on average every 18 months...again i have a par car LSV traveling 28 mph and going about 25 miles a day. I had original batteries from dealer and then they replaced them with interstate total time for 2 sets was about 3 years...now have battery boys batteries and already had warranty replacement after about 16 mos... i estimate i probably travel an avg of 7500 miles a year which is probably double the average. I do see a big difference in drainage of batteries if i were to travel same 25 miles on cart paths at a reduced speed of 19 mph

do you have real time digital voltage display on your dash?

That will give you a true picture, without one your guessing at what the drainage on the pac is.

The tire size may be the key to solving the problem, can you borrow a set of 10's from someone for a few days
