Happy Birthday Ford Mustang!
The Mustang turns 50 today! It was my first new car. I loved that car. I ordered it special....hatchback, green gold specks in it, stick shift. It was so much fun to drive. I waited "forever" for that car to come in and once I got it, it was like winning the lottery. Four days after I got it, my brother won the state championship swim meet. He asked me if he could borrow my car that night. Of course I let him....he was state champ! It was an icey night.....you guessed it! Crash, bang....my brother was not injured but the car.....oh wow! It was never the same.....but I had four good days with that car.

My first car was a used '66 red mustang.....loved that car!!

I had a Mustang..if I remember correctly, a '65. It was beige with a black interior. Loved that car!

Had a 1965, red on red in 1967. Currently have a1966 red convertible.

Always wanted one but a different vehicle was needed for different things. I do like the new Anniversary edition though......

For a while in the 80's I had one of each a hard top and convertible in red. Loved the convertible.

Had a '67 289. It's funny how we remember them in such fond terms. Traded it in for a Cougar XR7 351. Nowadays the old Mustangs are worth a lot more than the Cougars

It was the red ’67 Mustang, my first very own car. After we towed it home from the seller’s house :shocked:, he then taught me how to replace a water pump and tune the car up so it would run. I wonder how many other kids learned how to use ether to start their first car. The car cost $100, did not run and it had a dent in the rear trunk, but the trunk still worked. I cannot recall, but I bet we got my “new” water pump from a junk yard. "We" got it running and I could not have been happier. If you squinted your eyes it looked nice enough and it ran great. I had parked it in front of our house and the neighbor backed out and ran into the trunk. It was already dented there and I saw no appreciable difference to the dent. Insurance company came out, considered the car totaled and wrote me a check for about $325 :D. I drove it for many more years through college… |
My first car was a '66 Mustang fastback - 289 automatic - Antique Bronze Gold.
Bought it used in like new condition in 1969 for a whopping $1650. Those were the days! And of course one of the first things I did was pop off the hub caps & paint the rims flat black. We didn't have, nor could afford any fancy chrome wheels back then. |
I am a real big Mustang fan, currently own a 2012 red convertible, and I have restored 7 so far, working on #8, ready.............a '66 fastback. This one is full custom, 302 roller engine, cam, electronic timing, 350 HP, 2.5 inch dual stainless steel exhaust, Ford AOD transmission, 3.25 gears and posi differential. Converted the original front disc and rear drum to 4 wheel disc, added 15 inch Hurst rims. Custom paint, metallic blue with lace racing stripes. Currently working on the interior, wiring, window glass, etc. Cannot wait to go to the shows.
Wish I could have brought all of the ponies with me, oh by the way, my first NEW car was a Signal flare red, blank vinyl top, 289 auto Mustang coupe. |
We have, although we don't have it with us, a 1967 Mustang with 289 engine. We bought it in 1990. It's black, although it was originally candy apple green. (We didn't change the color.) The car has 104,000 miles on it, but the engine has fewer. My husband bought it from a friend at work who claimed they only drove it in parades. This was probably true, because he didn't know it had no brakes. On the way home from Zeeland, MI, to Grand Rapids, MI, there was a pileup on I 96 to which hubs almost contributed because of the no-brake situation. Thank God for medians. So that was the first bit of work done on the car. Every year we put some more $ into it, up to today, when our son, who got it out of storage and is driving it for the summer, informed us Discount Tire refused to put air in the tires because they are from 1998 and probably rotted. And they also wanted to know how far he had to drive to get home. He said two miles, not mentioning the 35 on the freeway to get it from Muskegon to GR. It's also stalling and misfiring. We knew this last year but were too busy packing up the condo to move to get it fixed.
So this year's load o' dough will be for tires and spark plugs. It was "raised" in dry California, so it has no rust under the car. It's not allowed out in the rain. We really wish the heater vent were not stuck on open, but Josh claims he can fix that, along with doing the spark plug work. He's happy as a pig in **** because he loves to work on simple cars, and his wife is equally happy because she loves driving that car. |

1976 Green MustangII, not my favorite, followed by a Grey 1979 with red velour interior and Michelin wheels and tires.
My favorite body style is still the 1969 Mach 1. I worked at the Ford Glass Plant, right next door to the Mustang plant and we used to have lunch at the plant and watch the new models roll of the line. |
