Of course, you can read most anything these days. I have read that Florida, Texas and Alabama have the most sinkholes that cause damage.

You are correct. If one keeps scrolling down on the article, sinkholes can also be human induced.
Our daughter who had a co major in environmental studies, mentioned to me that in areas of huge human population, where water consumption is very high, these sinkholes also occur. Please see last two paragraphs of this article.
