Is an outstanding organization which I support. They keep track of hate groups in the country and have an interactive map on their website showing where they are located. http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/hate-map There are none in The Villages, thankfully, and only one in Ocala, The Confederate Hammerskins. Interestingly, while the south has an abundance, the greatest number of any state is California, while New York and Pennsylvania each have a substantial number. The recent racist motivated killings at two Kansas City area Jewish Centers, has brought this issue to many people's attention. The shooter was (allegedly) a 72 year old avowed racist and former KKK grand dragon.

Thanks for posting this. I remember writing them on occasion about my victims/survivors of crimes 224 613 project (access to practical information through libraries) and seem to recall that they did not seem to get what I had been trying to do for so long. Some of these organizations can be a bit too focused and do not try do address the bigger picture. Limited resources I guess. This was a while ago.

If you name a well known organization in the US I probably wrote them at some time. Ironically, I believe that the National Rifle Association was one of the associations that got what I had been trying to do and why. This was a number of years ago, however.

Being a Southern girl, I have always been amazed at how people freely condemn the South for racism. Of course it does exist but I'm not so certain that is really that much more prevalent here than any other area. I have certainly seen racism in all parts of the country. I also think some of the larger numbers on the map are in proportion to the population.

Racism definitely exists in Florida and other Southern states. However, I would say the Northwest US such as Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming have a lock on it. Those places are where the greatest number of " patriot militias" have their armed compounds and are against anything government - except for their government Social Security checks.

The most racist person I ever met was a "prince" from the Ivory Coast who was studying at the University of Nevada, Reno. He was in my Minorities in the US Anthropology/Sociology course. He seemed to think that because ancestors of African-Americans had come over in slave ships that Africans were somehow superior because of this lineage. Some of these ancestors of Africans had been slave traders. This kind of reasoning never made much sense to me. That is to say that the sins and/or heroics of the great great fathers/mothers somehow influence the merit of the great great grandsons/granddaughters. Of course, someone who thinks in terms of bloodlines like some "royals" and their fans would probably be open to this kind of logic.

Racists and haters come from all locations, ethnicities, genders, age groups, and on and on. Most keep it mostly to themselves and most of their friends may not know about their prejudices. Many will claim to have no prejudices, but their opinions belie their true beliefs. These hate GROUPS are a particular problem and danger, however. They recruit people to their group and indoctrinate them with propaganda and demagoguery. Those "believers" then seek out more like-thinkers to bring to the group. Think about people who have had great influence in your life, hopefully for good, but someone like that can easily twist a vulnerable mind. Their hate filled diatribes and stories then further harden the views of the rest of the group, sometimes making the more volatile of the bunch to feel as though they have no choice but to right these "wrongs". The Southern Poverty Law Center tracks these groups and tries to keep an eye on their activities, bringing suit against those who step over the line. They are primarily responsible for crippling the KKK, by successfully suing them for all their assets.

I recently saw a documentry that warned about the dangers of tracking people. They said it's getting easier and easier due to modern technology. But it has the potential to end very badly. The title of this documentry is: "Shadow Government". You can search it if you like, or borrow the DVD from the Sumter County Library System.

Anyone can be worthy of tracking, depending on the point of view of the group that's doing the tracking. The point of the movie is that it can spiral out of control as it did in Hitler's Germany. Certain groups were targeted: Jews, homosexuals, defectives etc.. And it was done without modern technology! Imagine what can be done today.

I have found that people with no consciences for whatever reason will use anything that will give them an advantage and this of course includes technology. Thank God that the Founding Fathers had a profound knowledge of Roman and Greek history and especially English history and knew how power could be abused and wrote in the US Constitution about how it needed to be limited.

Some groups need to be carefully monitored for abusing what power they have. Certainly, the Southern Poverty Law Center should target hate groups like this. And, internet users should see who they are watching and if they are going out of bounds. That's what is great about the Internet, we can all play Sherlock Holmes to a certain extent.

What authority do they have to do this? Wouldn't they be considered stalkers at some point?

And what criteria is used to call someone or some group haters ?

Is the FAMILY RESEARCH COUNCIL a hate group (designated as such by SPLC) ?

These are just a few, but sure you will discredit them all, but all know their motive and funding. I can't discuss those items as it would be deemed be political, but suggest everyone read the background of the founder Morris Dees.
