Cost of Palm Tree Removal

I have 4 palm tress, and want to remove one, about 14 feet high to where the trunk ends and then there are only palms above it.

Some home owner, months ago, had told me it would cost $100 for a palm tree removal, but I asked a contractor I met on the street triming someone's palm in another village, and he said minimum is $200. What have others paid?

For $200 I am tempted to buy a $50 electric chain saw and do it myself, as I have taken down many far larger trees up north by myself. I understand The Villages will carry off small enough trunk pieces just as they do palms, branches, etc.

For $100 I am equally tempted not to bother doing it myself!

Usually, to have it done properly, including stump removal, it is between $200-500, depending on size and type of palm. The hard part isn't the tree, it is the stump and the roots. Good luck on doing it yourself.

I've had 3 done, all for 100 or fewer dollars. Must admit I used a "guy driving down the street". I had the tree cut at ground level then the stump remnant chain saw V-cut several inches deeper leaving a bowl shaped depression which is perfect for holding a large planter. Over a couple years the remnant is lessening as nature reclaims it as it would if the tree died naturally. Optionally one can drill holes and use products sold to accelerate decay of the stump remnant below the ground level. Nature does know how to recycle dead material. No issues with molds or any other problems.

Thanks to both of you for your information. I have also removed stumps, even big ones. It is great exercise! But I had more tools up north too. It is a question of how I want to spend my time.

I would rather SWING a Golf Club than SLING a Chain Saw.
