If you had only 1 day in New Orleans........
Will be in New Orleans for a day, not staying overnight. Where would you recommend for lunch? Is Commander's Palace worth it? I know there's probably better food (?) and it's very expensive, but it's one of those bucket list items. Not a strong item, more a consideration (I think I actually ate there once about 25 years ago....).
Is the on/off double decker trolley a good way to get around? My husband isn't up for a lot of constant walking. Any other must see suggestions appreciated. Thanks! |
These are questions for Lovsthosebigdogs. They go to Nola very frequently. You could PM her. She's packing up her house to move down here in June, so she may not be on the forum as much as usual.

Thanks....unfortunately, we aren't in control, or we would stay over. We will be on a tour.

This place has the best breakfast, lunch and dinner. Do all 3 there and you can't go wrong. New Orleans Restaurant | French Quarter Seafood Restaurants | Catering | Oceanagrill.com

Galatoire's Restaurant Brennans Felix's Red Fish Grill Court of Two Sisters Pat O Briens for a Hurricane Stop by Preservation Hall Jazz Place if time permits. Google the Restaurants and check their menu's out. Enjoy |
The Garden District has several (many) great places to eat. Café du Monde for sure. IF you can swing it the WW2 Museum is a "must see" (truly).

mmmmmm
love Benets (I know wrong spelling) from Cafe Dumond.

I know New Orleans like the back of my hand. If you want to eat with the locals, go to Lil Dizzy's on Elysian Fields. Great creole family, the Baquets, own and run it. A lot of folks will recommend Mother's, but it highly overrated. Mandina's on Canal is a great seafood restaurant...on the trolley car line. If you want to eat at a bucket list attraction, take the St Charles trolley out to the end...at Carrollton and take the short walk to Camellia Grill...or walk a little farther and go to the Oak Street Café. If you want a great Poboy, to out to Parkway Bakery on Bayou St John or Mahoney's out Magazine. Another bucket list item is a muffaletta from Central Grocery, but if I wanted a Muff, I would go to Cochon Butcher.
Several good restaurants on Frenchman Street. My last recommendation is where I usually eat...any of the little restaurants in the French Market...my favorites are the World Famous N'Awlins Café and Spice Emporium and Meals From the Heart. If you want a burger go to Port of Call on Esplanade, a pizza, Angeli on Decatur or Louisiana Pizza Kitchen by the French Market. |

This Cajun votes for Commanders Place for great fine dining and then go to the French Quarter and have a Hurricane!

You need a mufalata from the central market!

Moved here from Louisiana in January. My favorite restaurants are:Emeril's and
Commanders Palace. But, if I only had one day. Go to Jackson Square, see the city by taking a horse drawn carriage ride which is right there. See the St Louis Cathedral, the oldest in North America. Then eat at Muriel's, 801 Chartres. A Fantastic restaurant. You can probably make a reservation. Have a great trip. The World WarII museum is wonderful, but it takes about 4 hours to see it all |
Thanks for all the suggestions. I can tell I'm going to have to arrange another trip, when we can spend several days and just eat our way through the city.:)
