McDonalds closed yesterday

Once again, I'm surprised that none of the TOTV peeps posted anything about the health department's shutdown of the Colony McDonalds yesterday.

First I've heard about it. That is shocking for a company that built it's empire on quality control. I remember a story about the early days of McDonalds when Ray Krok walked into a store of a new franchisee and saw a dead fly on the windowsill and pulled his franchise rights. But there could be many reasons for a health department shutdown. If a pipe breaks leaving the restaurant without potable water, that could cause a shutdown. Do you know the exact reasons for the shutdown?

OMG ............. I think I'm going to be sick!

Very nasty stuff. Don't care if they reopen. Would be great if they don't.

It's a major management issue! I will never go there again.

Most of it is pretty minor, common violations. I'd say the biggies were the live roaches and the flies. Does sound like better training is needed. Hope it opens again soon. Mickey D is not my kind of place but the employees need the job and TV needs some sort of a fast food place at this end (no matter what the opinion is by some).

Orkin truck is on the premises this morning

Management should be fired

We drove by there on the way to the vet yesterday. There was an old sedan parked between two cones, blocking the entrance. My husband thought it was broken down, but I thought it was there on purpose to block the driveway. Question answered. Yuck.

Looks like some restaurant manager has some explaining to do to McDonalds Corporate. They'll fix it. I'll go back when they do. It won't take long. Let's make sure we post a link to the follow up report from the Health Department.

At least the roaches ate well:icon_hungry::icon_hungry:

Not to minimize the seriousness of the violations, but in the prior six inspections, this McDonalds has had an average of 6 violations, with the highest number of violations in a single inspection being 9. Sounds like this inspection is the exception and not the rule, and that failure mightbe primarily due to a new manager who might not be qualified for the job or simply failed to properly do their job!

Anyway, the 13 violations cited are not all that unusual for The Villages. You might be surprised on the number for some restaurants. If you go to the link below you will find a list of several restaurants in just Sumter Co that have had more, even up to 40 violations in one restaurant. I would guess that the reason this McDonalds was closed down, whereas others weren't, is because of the unusually high number of violations that were more serious than the basic violations (6 of the 13) along with the critical nature in a few of those 6 violations.

We live near this McDonalds but we don't frequently get food from there. Would I have a problem with going there for food after this closure? Judging by past inspections and comparing with other restaurants in the area, I'd have to say I wouldn't have a problem Besides, when they reopen they'll probably be the safest place to go... for at least a while anyway!

I have never heard of a McDonalds being closed for
violations before. Won't be going there again!

YUCKY !! :ohdear:

HMLRHT1 05-15-2014 10:17 AM

Your right Bonny, it was highjacked. Regarding McD's, the place was probably closed by management and corporate. Not by the health department. You would have seen signs from the health dept. that they were closed. Didn't see any signs or yellow tape. Having worked for McD's in the past and how they control the stores I am not surprised. But you will probably find new management and an extremely clean store once they reopen.
